I just skid off the road into some icy mud because of the black ice, and in less than a minute, two different trucks stopped and helped me get my car out of the mud. Texans really the best people, I love it here.
4. From neighbors collectively clearing the ice and snow from streets to help each other get to the store:
Yesterday a bunch of residents from Pecan Ridge Apts in @cityofwaco got together to clear up the ice from the roads, so residents could get out to grab some essentials. It was fun, tiring and in the end we were successful #TexasStrong #TexasFreeze #TexasWinterStorm2021 #Waco
5. To this person helping emergency crews navigate the dark stairways of their apartment complex:
NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS: A resident at The Grand at the Domain apartment complex helped shine his cellphone light so emergency crews could get a man in a wheelchair to a hospital. The building has not had power for more than 72 hours
6. Neighbors having makeshift shower birthday parties:
Oh, Texas.💔On Sunday, our neighbor’s pipes burst, flooding their home. They are now stabilized but w/o water indefinitely. The daughter’s 15th bday is today, and all she wanted was a hot shower. We offered ours, plus a few recycled decorations thrown together. Yay, but also ugh.
7. And neighbors sharing precious firewood:
During below freezing temperatures on day 2 of the ice abyss I heard my neighbor chopping wood. He later brought me 3 laundry baskets full of wood. God bless him. ✝️ #LoveYourNeighbor #LoveTexans #TexasStrong
8. A furniture store owner even opened his store for people to use as a heating center. Over 500 people spent the night there too:

9. When thousands of sea turtles were left "cold-stunned" in the Gulf of Mexico, volunteers literally put them in their Subarus:
My mom is retired, & she spends her winters volunteering at a sea turtle rescue center in south Texas. The cold snap is stunning the local turtles & they’re doing a lot of rescues. She sent me this photo today of the back of her Subaru. It’s *literally* turtles all the way down.
10. "Imagine a football field with turtles side by side."
As requested, more photos from Mom. She says “imagine a football field with turtles side by side and nose to tail. That’s what it looks like here.”
11. But it wasn't only sea turtles.
Texas Game Wardens assigned to Cameron county rescued 141 sea turtles from the frigid waters of the Brownsville Ship Channel and surrounding bays. The sea turtles were transported via the PV Murchison, operated by Sgt. Game Warden Duke and B/M Bowers-Vest.
