You Will Never Hear Destiny Child's "Independent Women, Pt. 1" The Same After Reading This

"I farted!"

Posted on

Not that you need this history lesson, but here it is: In 2000, Destiny's Child released "Independent Women, Pt. 1" on the Charlie's Angel's soundtrack and it BLEW UP.

How much did it blow up? It was the #1 song in America for eleven consecutive weeks (eleven!), and also hit the top spot in England, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, and the Netherlands.

How much did it blow up? It was the #1 song in America for eleven consecutive weeks (eleven!), and also hit the top spot in England, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, and the Netherlands.

But — FULL WARNING — If you want to be able to enjoy the song the same way ever again, stop reading now!

Still with us? Okay, hit play and take a trip down memory lane until about 52 seconds in when the chorus drops. THAT is what we need to discuss.

For reference's sake, here are the chorus's ACTUAL lyrics with the relevant parts bolded:

"The shoes on my feet

I've bought it

The clothes I'm wearing

I've bought it
The rock I'm rockin'

I've bought it

'Cause I depend on me

If I wanted the watch you're wearin'

I'll buy it
The house I live in

I've bought it
The car I'm driving

I've bought it
I depend on me"

But the thing is... if you listen to the chorus again you'll see it sounds less like "I've bought it" and more like...something altogether different.

The shoes on my feet...

NBC

The clothes I'm wearing...

Fox

The rock I'm rockin'...

Paramount

'Cause I depend on me / If I wanted the watch you're wearin'...

The house I live in...

New Line Cinema

The car I'm driving...

You hear the "I farted?" Well, now you'll never NOT hear it.

Sorry, everybody. I'll crawl back into my hole now.
