19 Super-Outrageous Things You Wouldn't Want To Find In Your Hotel Room, As Told By The Guests Who Actually Experienced It

You might want to check your room a little more closely next time...

Recently, we asked the BuzzFeed Community to share the weirdest, wildest, or most unexpected things they found after checking into a hotel room, and they did not hold back. Here are some of the most memorable responses (that will make you never want to stay at a hotel again):

    1. "I was getting surgery in a different city and booked a cheapish hotel. Checked into my room late. First thing off: The hotel check-in doubled as a liquor store. Second thing off: The rug was weirdly moist. Third thing off: THERE WAS A USED CONDOM UNDER THE BED."

    2. "On a work trip, our flight was delayed several times due to weather, and we didn't land until around 1 a.m. After checking into the hotel and finally getting to my room in the dog days of summer, I could immediately feel the humidity of a broken air conditioner and a horrendous smell. Yes, the air conditioner was indeed broken and there was an unflushed turd still floating in the bathroom toilet (better than the shower, I guess)."

    3. "Checked into a suite at a fancy hotel. On first glance it was OK, but as we unpacked and put a few things away, it was apparent the last guests had a wild party and housekeeping didn't do a thorough clean. As we were opening doors looking for the mini fridge, we found empty beer and liquor bottles. So we started looking around more and also found dirty glasses, multiple G-strings, a dildo, condoms (in a package), a pizza box, dirty plates under the couch, and a few other random items jammed in drawers. We called the front desk, and the hotel manager came up with the housekeeping manager to have a look."

    4. "Someone else's belongings! They told us the wrong room number, and that room was already occupied. Thankfully, they were not in the room when we barged in. We went back to the check-in and got our correct room."

    5. "We took a trip with our two teens, using Las Vegas as a base, 20 or so years ago. My husband is a frugal traveler and talked with a chain hotel just off the Strip and got a great deal. Since we were doing things like hiking Red Rock, visiting the dam, Lake Mead, and driving to visit Death Valley, he thought it would be fine. It was clean, but then my 16-year-old son found porn magazines under the mattress. He thought it was funny, but I was not so happy."

    6. "I was in Las Vegas on a solo vacation. One night, I was watching the TV in my room and noticed the color was off. I went over to see if I could fix it, and behind the TV was a full change cup with what turned out to be roughly $20 in it."

    7. "Checked into my hotel. I went up to my room, and when I opened the door, I heard a scream, and a member of the staff ran out with her underwear around her ankles. She was using the toilet. I should note that I am a woman. I backed out of the room and started laughing to the point of tears as she ran out after tidying herself up and apologizing. I never reported it to the management, but she must have told other staff members, because they all seemed extra helpful during my stay, and I got a few free drinks at the hotel bar."

    8. "Back when I lived in Illinois, we traveled to St. Louis for fun. I don't remember anything about that trip, but when we got to our hotel, there was blood in the room and cigarette holes in the sheets. I remember my sister and I shared a bed, and she made me sleep on the one side that didn't have blood."

    9. "Six crisp $100 bills on the closet shelf in a casino hotel, apparently stashed there by a former guest who forgot about them. The only reason I found them was that I'd thrown a couple of T-shirts up there. When I pulled them down, the cash came with them. No telling how long they'd been there."

    10. "Checked into a name-brand hotel in Manhattan, half a block from Central Park. Found women's panties hanging on the shower rail!"

    11. "When I was a kid, my family would drive down to Florida (from New York) and often stayed in whatever hotel we could find off the highway when my parents got tired of driving. We once stayed at a place that had vibrating beds. Under that bed I found a giant purple dildo. I, of course, had no idea what it was at the time, but you should have seen my mom flying across the room to grab it out of my hand!"

    12. "We were staying at a janky, nonchain hotel for a family event. I was already turned off by the vibes of the place. When we started looking around the room, it didn't take long to figure out how little effort had gone into cleaning it. We found a half-smoked joint sitting openly on a shelf in the kitchen."

"We got a new room (no weed, but equally janky) but declined when the family asked us to stay longer, and resolved never to go back. After that and some other experiences, I decided to stay only in hotels with a lot of really high ratings and/or a name I recognize."

    13. "Once checked in, I opened the in-room safe to find a well-worn pair of sneakers."

    14. "For me, it was a strange man sleeping in the bed. I still don't know who was more shocked. I was slightly annoyed, but it would have been worse the other way round. There was a lot of joking at breakfast the next day."

    15. "One time after checking into a very nice hotel in Portland, Oregon, after spending 10 hours driving, I stripped down to my skivvies and went to hop into bed. I pulled back the covers and found a T-shirt under the sheets. It wasn't nasty, but it certainly wasn't fresh and clean."

    16. "A massive mushroom growing out of the windowsill. It was an otherwise very clean hotel and room."

    17. "Took a late-night flight into Kansas City, Missouri, for a business meeting early the next morning. I checked into my hotel, a higher-end chain, at about 11 and got to my room exhausted. I set aside my bags and quickly got ready for bed. I pulled the top sheets back to hop in, only to see a bed full of pubes."

    18. "I used to work the front desk in a hotel. It was one of the main chains, so it was trusted to be clean. This specific property was pet-friendly. There was no additional charge for pets, so it wasn't required to be reported on the stay. If we knew there was an animal, we would keep those to the first floor in a certain area to keep the other rooms in better condition. I had a guest mention that it smelled of pee and they thought they heard meowing. The housekeepers and supervisor didn't smell anything upon cleaning the room."

"I apologized and explained that we were a pet-friendly hotel, so it was possible that his neighbors had a cat in their room. The guest decided to stay in the room anyway and never made mention of it again. After two nights, the guest checked out as the reservation ended. When the housekeeper went into the room, she found a cat living inside the pull-out sofa bed. It had been in there the entire stay of the guest."

    19. "I travel for work with college students most weekends, and staying in hotels is a part of that process. One trip, I had gotten all the students checked into their rooms, so I headed to mine. When I opened the door, I was met with a literal crime scene. Furniture was thrown about, beds were standing on end, and most disturbingly, there was blood EVERYWHERE."
