Last summer, I interned at Nickelodeon on the children’s educational television show, Blaze and the Monster Machines! Our team conducted episode testing at NYC preschools and presented the results in production-wide meetings in an effort to improve the show’s curriculum, story line, characters, and overall entertainment factor. I was always an active participant in these production meetings and have become very comfortable pitching my own ideas and brainstorming with team members. Working at Nickelodeon also taught me the importance of a work environment where I am surrounded by people who, like me, are driven, passionate, and genuinely happy to come to the office every day. Being proud of the work being done matters. Being able to be playful and positive while remaining focused matters.

3. Because one time in eighth grade I DVR’d the season finale of “Flavor of Love” so I could watch it the next day after school but then in math class these two boys told me who won (Hoopz) and I got so mad that they both wrote me apology letters.

4. Because I have experience working in social media ... and can do so efficiently and enthusiastically.

During my senior year of college, I was promoted to Associate Director of PR, Events, and Social Media of the non-profit organization, Working for Worcester. The project's mission is to benefit the city's children by providing them with new recreational spaces. To be successful, we needed to be heard! By running the organization's social media accounts, I was able to develop my skills in communication, management of social content, and community building while using my sense of humor to attract and maintain an audience.

7. Because during my sophomore year in college, I started an anonymous reaction GIF-style blog about the common gripes of college life.

It was light-hearted (never mean!), humorous, and it went pretty viral on campus.

I independently taught myself how to create the blog and used social sharing, word of mouth, and Google Analytics to gauge the popularity of the site. I studied the trends and learned to capitalize on them by posting during the times of heaviest traffic—on certain days of the week, at certain times during the semester, and at certain hours of the day. I came to understand when my target market tended to procrastinate or needed a laugh.

And it was hilarious to hear my friends and classmates talk about the blog and how "it's, like, sooooo us!"

8. Because I majored in Psychology.

My studies in Social Psychology have given me the ability to sense what keeps an audience engaged and hooked. My psych degree has also given me the chance to pursue several independent research projects. Taking ownership of a research project -- establishing a topic, designing the structure, recruiting participants, analyzing data, and authoring a scholarly research paper -- has honed my leadership, time-management, writing and organizational skills.
