Starring Dev Patel, the film has been adapted from Brierley's novel A Long Way Home.
When he was five years old, Saroo (played by Sunny Pawar) was separated from his brother and ended up alone, travelling on the wrong train away from his family.
Twenty-five years later an adult Saroo, while happy with his adoptive family, began to yearn for answers about his home back in India.
With the introduction of Google Earth, Saroo has the ability to search India from across the globe, looking for landmarks he might recognise, hoping to find some clues about his home.
The film also stars Rooney Mara, Nicole Kidman, and David Wenham.
