18 Tips That May Help Save Your Relationship From Snoring

Tips that may seriously help you and your partner get that good night's sleep you've been dreaming about! Because when you're someone who snores, you'd do just about *anything* to have your S.O. say you're a "snooze" in the bedroom.

    1. Avoid sleeping on your back if you tend to snore — it can cause your tongue to collapse to the back of your throat (a description that sounds about as unpleasant as the snoring itself) instead, use a body pillow that'll encourage you to sleep on your side and keep your tongue in the front of your mouth where it belongs.

    2. If you're not in the mood to bring a person-sized pillow into your twin bed, tape tennis balls to your back for a bit. This will (hopefully) train your body to naturally start sleeping on your side so your nose stops causing a ~racket~ at night.

    3. Try an anti-snore pillow if you refuse to give up your preferred sleeping position. It's designed to let you continue sleeping on your back while still angling your body in a way that can prevent snoring.

    4. Have a hot shower before going to bed to try to help open your nasal cavities... and just to wash your body before jumping into your clean sheets.

    5. Speaking of sheets, wash your bedding weekly and replace your pillowcases every six months. This'll help prevent dust mites which may cause congestion and difficulty breathing (and difficulty sleeping, when you think about those nasty campers all up in your comforter).

    6. Keep this travel-sized noise cancelling machine by your side when visiting your snoring S.O. The white noise will drown them out so you can get some shut-eye.

    7. Invest in an air purifier, which may help cleanse your home of pollutants that can irritate and inflame nasal cavities.

    8. Or use a neti pot to clear out the chaos right at the source.

    9. Chomp down on a tongue stabilizer because sometimes the answer is right on the tip of your tongue. This anti-snoring mouth guard keeps your jaw aligned and your tongue in place when your nose isn't the reason your snoring is in season.

    10. Exercise your throat by repetitively moving your tongue in different motions/stretches. As we get older, the muscles in our throat weaken and our throats literally become narrower. Exercising like this will help strengthen those muscles and can help reduce snoring without spending a penny.

    11. Throw on a nasal strip that claims to help open up your nostrils so you can breathe deeply, and quietly, all night long.

    12. If you have a partner who won't accept that their snoring is enough to keep you from falling asleep, record them at night. This will help address your weariness with facts and may help spring them into action.

    13. Plug in a nose vent, helpful little device with some seriously ~sound~ reviews.

    14. Stay hydrated to prevent your mucus from being sticky when you sleep.

    15. Snort up some anti-snoring spray to —ideally— keep you from waking up the house, so you can breathe easy.

    16. Put on a chin strap to keep your jaw closed at night (this is designed to prevent snoring, drooling, and embarrassing photos of you when you're asleep — so long as you accept "chin strap" as acceptable Instagram fashion).

    17. Use a humidifier if you live in an area where the air is dry. Dry air can irritate your throat and nose which could possibly cause the same swelling that is making your REM sound a lot more like R.E.M.

    18. And if you'd like to add an aroma to your humid room; peppermint, lemon, tea tree, and lavender are all recommended to clear sinuses.

    Sweet (silent) dreams!
