I'm Very Dumb And Just Learned That Olmec From "Legends Of The Hidden Temple" Is Based On A Real Thing

As the old saying goes, ya learn something new everyday.

Ok, sooooo, you guys know Olmec right?

I mean, if you were a child in the '90s slash have lived on earth at all, you definitely know Olmec.

He's the talking stone head from Legends Of The Hidden Temple, on Nickelodeon.

He would send you to your likely demise into the temple, and ask you to bring him back something which was impossible to get because damn temple guards were snatching kids away left and right!

But anyway, you know Olmec. Olmec, the Olmec head.

BUT did you know that Olmec is based on a REAL thing? I didn't know. But also, I'm kinda dumb, so when I googled "Olmec," (cause I was wondering if I should dress up as him for Halloween) I was quite surprised at what came up.

Literally the Olmec civilization was the first civilization in Mesoamerica. I've learned about The Incans and The Mayans, but never about The Olmecs.. SO THIS WAS NEWS TO ME!!!

Their civilization was located in current day Mexico along the gulf, in the areas of Veracruz and Tabasco.

And...YOU GUESSED IT (or maybe you didn't) the Olmec civilization were sculptors of colossal head stones, like this guy. Look familiar?

Currently, there are 17 known colossal heads. They are very big.

So Olmec, the TV star, seems to be quite literally named after the Olmec civilization and based off their colossal heads!!

But for some reason in all my years of watching Nick GaS after school, I never learned this until now. And hopefully if you didn't know this either, I've taught you something here today. So, um, did I teach you something? Or...not.
