Kendall Jenner is addressing the “pick me” discourse once again.
Fans and critics of the Kardashian/Jenners have long labeled Kendall, 27, a “pick me girl” — aka someone who goes out of their way to make it seem like they're “not like other girls,” per Urban Dictionary.
For years, Kendall has branded herself as someone who is far different from her sisters. In the past, she’s repeatedly brought up the fact that her younger sister Kylie Jenner is “super into makeup” while she’s “totally not,” and has also shaded Kylie’s lip fillers on several occasions.
Last year, Kendall poked fun at the Pick Me Discourse by posting a TikTok video using an infamous soundbite of the time she described herself as super naturally athletic.
“I’m literally built as an athlete. Every blood test I've ever done has said that I am, like, over the normal limit of athleticness,” she says in the clip, which she placed over footage of herself skiing in her TikTok.
“It’s giving ‘pick me’ vibes,” she wrote in the caption. Many TikTok users found Kendall’s reference to the long-running discourse hilarious, and praised her “self-aware” approach.
But while Kendall made light of her “pick me” title last year, it now seems that she’s actually pretty annoyed by the entire thing.
Sitting down with Wall Street Journal for a candid conversation this week, Kendall purportedly “frequently” mentioned that she’s "worried" about being labeled a “pick me.”
The interviewer firstly notes that Kendall detailed struggling with the “feeling of sticking out” and facing scrutiny, before going on to share the reason that she avoided taking tons of photos with her sisters Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian at last year’s Met Gala.
Kendall, who is 5'11", told the interviewer that she didn’t want to be photographed with her sisters because of how much she stood out in her 8-inch Marc Jacobs platform boots — which made her about 6'7" on the night.
Elsewhere during the WSJ interview, Kendall detailed feeling “out of place” in her family from a super young age as she discussed her difficult relationship with fame.
“Since I was really young, I felt out of place in my family,” she said. “I was born into this life, but I didn’t choose this life.”
“I’m not built for this by any means,” she went on. “I’m not good at it. I do it, and I’ve learned how to do it.”
“I considered myself one of the luckiest people on the planet to be able to live the life that I live,” she clarified. “But I do think that it's challenging for me a lot more than it's not.”
And later on, Kendall noted that she feels more like a “Jenner” than she does a “Kardashian” due to how similar she is to her dad, Caitlyn Jenner.
“I obviously understand I fall under the umbrella of the Kardashian sisters,” she said. “It’s just weird to me... because I am just like my dad in so many ways. I’m such a Jenner, in my opinion.”
