A Guy Who Doesn't Believe In Evolution Just Made A Major Fossil Discovery

God works in ironic ways.

It was just another day of basement digging for Edgar Nernberg... until he stumbled on a rare find.

The basement excavation worker unearthed a trove of fossils in Calgary's northeast that scientists say date back 60 million years.

But here's the thing: Nernberg doesn't really buy into the idea that the Earth is billions of years old.

As it turns out, Nernberg is “known as the greatest promoter of creationism in Alberta.”

According to the Edmonton Sun, Nernberg also sits on the board of a the Big Valley Creation Science Museum and lobbies to put creationism in school curriculums.

Just north of Alberta's famed badlands near Drumheller, the museum's mission is to "to display the evidence of his handiwork and refute the lie of evolution." While it does have fossils, they're used to support the idea that the Earth is only a few thousand years old and that humans once frolicked with dinosaurs.

Is Nernberg swayed by his Cenozoic Era find? Not even a little bit.

“No, it hasn’t changed my mind. We all have the same evidence, and it’s just a matter of how you interpret it,” Nernberg told the Sun.

“There’s no dates stamped on these things."

In any case, the paleontologist Nernberg brought his discovery to is just glad he didn't keep them to himself.

"Because complete fossils are relatively rare from this time period in Alberta, any such discoveries are significant as they shed light on the nature and diversity of animals that lived not long after the extinction of the dinosaurs," said Darla Zelenitsky, a paleontologist and assistant professor at the University of Calgary.
