PEI Is Finally Getting An Abortion Clinic But Still Can't Say The Word "Abortion"

    On Friday, the government of Prince Edward Island announced that a new "women's wellness centre" was being added to the hospital in Summerside.

    However, curiously, there was a certain word that no one seemed to dare speak at the announcement. This one:

    As CBC reporter Brian Higgins pointed out, even though the written announcement says abortions will be offered, officials seemed to be unable to say so out loud.

    No one has said "pregnancy termination" out loud. It's in the written media statement. #PEI

    Though this doctor did.

    Even in the press release from the province, abortion — phrased as "pregnant termination" — is only mentioned at the very bottom.

    Like you're going to have to do a bunch of scrolling.

    Strangely, even The Guardian, the local newspaper, only mentions abortion in the headline and nowhere within the story about the announcement.

    After years of being Canada's last holdout on in-province abortion access, maybe PEI just needs some time to get used to it. So here's another reminder:
