On Friday, the government of Prince Edward Island announced that a new "women's wellness centre" was being added to the hospital in Summerside.

It's a huge win for reproductive rights advocates who've been fighting with the government for decades to bring abortion services to the island.

Until changes announced this year, those in need of an abortion had to travel off-island to New Brunswick or Nova Scotia. That also meant dealing with travel costs and taking time off work.

After a legal challenge from activists, the province promised to establish services on the island. Prince County Hospital will receive $5.35 million for an expansion that includes both the women's wellness centre and an ambulatory care centre. The wellness centre will also provide other reproductive and sexual health services

As CBC reporter Brian Higgins pointed out, even though the written announcement says abortions will be offered, officials seemed to be unable to say so out loud.

No one has said "pregnancy termination" out loud. It's in the written media statement. #PEI

Though this doctor did.
