Here Are 17 Of The Best New And Returning Shows Coming In October 2023

There are so many great new (and returning) shows coming this month like Mike Flanagan's new spooky series, Loki Season 2, and the TV adaptation of Lessons in Chemistry starring Brie Larson.

1. Loki Season 2

Season 2 of Loki is upon us and this time around we pick up in the aftermath of the Season 1 finale where Loki (Tom Hiddleston) finds himself battling for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. Along with Mobius (Owen Wilson), Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku), and more, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and dangerous multiverse in search of Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), Judge Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), Miss Minutes, and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose. Ke Huy Quan will also join the cast this season.

2. Lessons in Chemistry

Set in the early '50s, Lessons in Chemistry follows Elizabeth Zott (Brie Larson), whose dream is to become a chemist but she can't seem to make it happen in this male-dominated industry. After Elizabeth gets fired from her lab, she accepts an unexpected job as a host on a TV cooking show. Then, Elizabeth sets out to teach a nation of underestimated housewives how to cook using what she knows best: science.

3. The Fall of the House of Usher

It's that time of year again: Mike Flanagan is back with his latest spooky series!!!! The Fall of the House of Usher is a horror series based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Ruthless siblings Roderick (Bruce Greenwood) and Madeline Usher (Mary McDonnell) have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth and power but when past secrets come to light, chaos ensues. Now, the heirs to the Usher dynasty are dying at the hands of a mysterious woman and the Ushers must decide what's most important: family or reputation.

4. Our Flag Means Death Season 2

Like OFMD's first season, Season 2 is based (very) loosely on the true adventures of the 18th-century would-be pirate, Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby). After trading the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for one with more adventure, Stede becomes captain of the pirate ship Revenge and finds love where he least expects it. Now he must navigate the high seas and his budding relationship with Captain Blackbeard (Taika Waititi). Minnie Driver, Bronson Pinchot, Ruibo Qian, Madeleine Sami, Anapela Polataivao, and Erroll Shand also join the cast this season.

5. Fear the Walking Dead Season 8

Now that Shrike (Maya Eshet) and her influence are gone, Madison (Kim Dickens) sets her sights on transforming PADRE into the safe haven the old stadium was meant to be. But in doing so the island becomes a target as well as a beacon as word of Madison and this land of resources spreads, attracting unwanted attention that puts PADRE back in peril and questions whether our heroes even deserve to save it. The final episodes of Fear of the Walking Dead will be anything but tame when the series returns later this month.

7. Upload Season 3

Now, Nora (Andy Allo) and Nathan can live happily ever after, right? Meanwhile, in Lakeview, a backup copy of Nathan has been activated and Ingrid (Allegra Edwards) is not about to let this second chance at love slip away. What could possibly go wrong?

9. The Gilded Age Season 2

10. Fellow Travelers

11. Lupin Part 3

13. Quantum Leap Season 2

14. Big Mouth Season 7

In the newest season of Big Mouth, we'll finally see our favorite characters taking on their biggest challenge yet...middle school graduation. Now, as high school feels closer than ever, the gang will have to come to terms with all the new changes teenage life comes with. Megan Thee Stallion, Lupita Nyong'o, Padma Lakshmi, Zazie Beetz, Billy Porter, Stephanie Beatriz, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan will all lend their voices to characters this season. And Lin-Manuel Miranda will also have a song featured.

15. Shining Vale Season 2

Season 2 kicks off four months after the events of Season 1, and now Pat’s (Courteney Cox) insurance has run out and she is released from the psychiatric hospital early. Pat returns home, determined to pick up the pieces of her broken family, but she quickly finds out her children don’t need her and her husband Terry (Greg Kinnear) doesn’t even remember her. To make matters worse, Pat’s new neighbor Ruth looks exactly like Rosemary (Mira Sorvino), aka the demon trying to possess her.

16. Sullivan's Crossing

From the team behind Virgin River comes Sullivan's Crossing. This new series follows neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan), who seemingly has it all until her business partner is indicted for fraud and she's charged with negligence. Now, hoping to distance herself from the fallout, Maggie decides to leave Boston and return to her childhood home of Sullivan’s Crossing, a rustic and remote campground set against the stunning coastline. While she's there, she rekindles old friendships, builds new ones with the local residents, and has the chance to build a relationship with her estranged dad Sully Sullivan (Scott Patterson). Maggie also comes across heartthrob Cal Jones (Chad Michael Murray), who only complicates life even more. As Maggie works on clearing her name and reputation, she's forced to confront her painful past, as she attempts to reconnect with a side of herself she had long forgotten.

17. Neon

Neon follows three friends as they hustle their way to making it big in the world of reggaeton. The series captures not only the three besties' larger-than-life dreams, but also the harsh realities and funny mishaps of surviving the music industry. Tyler Dean Flores plays Santi, a rising reggaeton artist who, with the help of his friends Ness (Emma Ferreira), Felix (Jordan Mendoza), and A&R rep Mia (Courtney Taylor), hopes to become the biggest star in reggaeton...or at least pay his rent.
