Chris Pratt Was Rejected From So Many Auditions Before "Guardians Of The Galaxy" That He Considered Never Auditioning For MCU Films Again
"I would either submit a tape and they would say, 'No, we don’t need to see him,' or I would get there and see them, they’d go, 'No, that’s the last time we need to see you.'"
One of the many successful franchises he's currently attached to is the Guardians of the Galaxy series within the MCU — the third movie of which comes out this Friday, May 5.
You could say that, at this point, Chris is a major player within the MCU — but during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actor revealed that he almost gave up entirely on his Marvel dreams earlier in his career.
Chris revealed that he auditioned to appear in one of the Thor movies — but not in the way you think. “I auditioned for Thor, but not even to be Thor — but to be one of the sidekick guys," he said. "I didn’t get a callback."
“Usually, they give you a little bit of feedback, and I remember the casting director goes, 'Wow. You really made a big choice there,'" he recalled.
"Which is code for like, ‘Hey, dial back the acting there, guy.’”
Chris said that the professional rejection "got to the point where I was never gonna audition for Marvel again." "I was like, 'This is stupid, I’m never gonna be in a Marvel movie,'" Chris recalled.
The self-doubt came at a time where Chris was auditioning for "anything that came out that needed a guy that even remotely looked like me."
"I would either submit a tape and they would say, 'No, we don’t need to see him,' or I would get there and see them, they’d go, 'No, that’s the last time we need to see you.'"
Of course, we all know what happened next. Is there a lesson here? Sure — if at first you don't succeed in getting cast in an MCU movie, try, try, again.
