We talked to a real pizza expert and editor-in-chief of Pizza Today, Jeremy White, to get to the bottom of it.

According to White, any food with meat and or cheese that is left out in room temperature for more than two hours can cause foodborne illness. YES, THAT MEANS PIZZA.

So that pizza that you ordered for your friends that you left sitting out on the counter while you marathoned another show on Netflix? DANGER ZONE.

Now you may ask, "What about pizza that I put in a refrigerator?!"

White had an answer about that, too. Pizza in a refrigerator is safe for three to four days MAXIMUM. Four days is pushing it, and beyond that, you might be kissing your toilet seat.

White added that a lot of food-based illnesses can be dependent upon your personal immune system, the area that the food is kept in, and the environment in general.

But as they say, it's better to be safe than PUKING.

TL;DR You shouldn't eat pizza that has been left out for more than two hours, or pizza that has been in your refrigerator for more than three to four days or you might vomit.

Here's to you, pizza. May we always eat you and never be forced to expel your greatness due to food poisoning.
