    Valentine's Day can sometimes make it seem like everyone else is caught up in love and passion. But hey, being single might actually be the SMARTEST choice you've ever made! Take a break from all the lovey-dovey stuff and check out these movies that show romance isn't always the answer.

    1. Midsommar (2019)

    After a devastating family loss, Dani attempts to escape her anguish by following her emotionally stagnant boyfriend and his friends on a vacation, attending a clandestine Swedish Midsummer celebration. The party quickly turns sour when the festivities uncover some truly unsettling customs.

    2. Audition (1999)

    When a widower, Shigeharu Aoyama, is finally ready to move on, his movie producer friend suggests holding a mock casting call audition for the role of his wife, including a written essay. This already sounds a bit sus, but hey, whatever works, right? However, when the stunning and empathetic Asami Yamazaki auditions, Aoyama falls quickly and hard. After declaring his love for her, he stumbles upon a terrifying mystery surrounding the object of his affections. Don't trust anyone, I guess.

    3. Heathers (1988)

    If you have ever been in a toxic relationship where you just bring the worst out in each other, Heathers may hit a little close to home. This dark comedy delves into the realm of high school politics, cliques, social croquet, and even murder. When Veronica crosses paths with J.D., the chemistry between them ignites, in more ways than one.

    4. Fatal Attraction (1987)

    Watching Fatal Attraction will make you appreciate the fact that you don't have an unfaithful spouse who's cheating on you with a stalker like Glenn Close. Your pet rabbit will thank you.

    5. Ready or Not (2019)

    Imagine it's your wedding night and your new in-laws suggest a fun game of hide and seek, because it's tradition, I guess. Imagine that game of hide and seek taking place in a secluded mansion and your in-laws are trying to kill you. Glad you're not engaged yet?

    6. Valentine (2001)

    When a group of former high-school friends start receiving ominous Valentine's Day cards, there's only one person it could be — the fella in the Cupid mask, obviously. But are they just pranks, or is it the revenge of the boy they tortured in high school? I don't know about you, but I have a sneaking suspicion it's the latter...

    7. Fresh (2022)

    Dating is dangerous. Plain and simple. Just, don't trust anyone...

    8. Life After Beth (2014)

    A lot of things can draw a relationship to a close, but is death one of them? Maybe not for the couple in this fresh take on the zombie genre. Life After Beth is a dark comedy starring Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick, so in my opinion, it's perfect for Valentine's Day viewing.

    9. The War of the Roses (1989)

    If you wanted evidence that even the most seemingly perfect marriages can end in a toxic mess, this is the movie for you. This black comedy is set as a warning story about divorce, however, for me it's more of a warning against marriage as a whole. Let's just stay single and ready to mingle y'all. It's much safer, and a lot less expensive and painful.

    10. And finally, John Tucker Must Die (2006)

    Whether you're still in high-school, or an adult, we can all agree, there is nothing more brutal than being cheated on as a teen. And John thinks he's the master of it. When three girls accidentally find out that their beau is in fact dating all of them at once, they decide revenge is their only option. If you have had a rough time and are looking for something a little lighter, this one's for you. Just pop your brain out and enjoy the melodrama of high school for a while. Bonus, Penn Badgley has never looked cuter with his wavy little bob! I am here for it.

    So there you have it, happy singledom everyone!
