Kilee Mikell

I'm Kilee Mikell. I'm a graduate student at The University of Alabama finishing up my last year of school in social work. I received an undergraduate degree in psychology from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. I am passionate about mental health. Over the past eight months I have been working hard to reduce stigma and spread awareness about a particular disorder-Borderline Personality Disorder. However, I think it is important to reduce stigma and spread awareness about all mental health disorders that exist.

    Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a disorder characterized by instability in moods, relationships, and behaviors. Christina Olenchek describes it as “Trying to drive a car that is constantly careening out of control. Emotional vulnerability, fear of abandonment, and a seemingly invalid environment push the car from one side of the road to the other. The tiniest stressors can force the car into a ditch.” Those diagnosed with BPD can have a hard time describing exactly what life can be like living with the disorder.
