Since early on in life I've been an avid reader but since I've gotten older I've experienced what many book lovers refer to as a 'reading slump' due to well, life just getting the way. Enter BookTok, the hashtag and community that's bursting through social media. My new discovery of the TikTok niche that's all about reading has helped me rediscover my love for reading, and given me all the new and exciting book recommendations I needed! If you're in need of the same help, and want to know what books BookTok are talking about right now, keep reading.

1. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

For those who love Greek history, this story is about Patroclus, an awkward prince who has been exiled to the court of King Peleus and his son Achilles. Despite their differences, he and the prince become friends, and as they grow into young men, their bond blossoms into something deeper. I mostly see BookTokers talking about how much this book made them cry, so be prepared to shed a few tears.

Magazine reporter Monique Grant listens to her incredible story and is tasked with writing her biography. Let's just say I'm about 50 pages in and I'm already hooked.

4. The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

This is another book that you literally cannot escape on BookTok. It's a romance about third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith, who doesn't believe in lasting romantic relationships. But when she ends up kissing young hotshot professor Adam Carlsen, she decides to try a little experiment.

If you haven't heard of Colleen Hoover yet, let me introduce you to BookTok's favourite author. Sounds promising right? Not quite.

It centres around Juliette Cai, the heir of the Scarlet Gang, and Roma Montagov, the prodigal son of her biggest rivals, the White Flowers. If it really does follow the basic premise of Romeo and Juliet, we can imagine that heartbreak ensues. 

10. This Poison Heart and Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron

This author has not one, but two popular books on BookTok right now. This Poison Heart is about Briseis, who has a power over plants and finds out she has also inherited a lot of secrets, and Cinderella is Dead is an exciting twist on the classic fairytale.

11. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

Perfect for fans of Riverdale and Gone Girl, this YA crime thriller follows Pippa, who starts to uncover secrets about a closed murder case that make her believe the real killer may still be out there.
