Here's Why A Custom Suit Is Much Better Than One Off The Rack

No matter what your size or style, there's something for everyone.

Wedding season is basically in full swing, and if you’re anything like me, you probably still throw on that one starter suit you got a few years ago every time a special occasion comes around.

But, don't you want to look good AND feel good?

One way to guarantee you look your absolute best is with a made-to-measure suit. Now, I'm sure that when you think of a "made-to-measure" suit, you think "expensive". I know I did, at least.

Well I've got something great to tell you about: a company called InStitchu, which sells made-to-measure suits starting at $399.

But what piqued my interest with InStitchu was the price point. The company's made-to-measure suits start at $399!

I got to go through the made-to-measure process to put it to the test and see if it was really as seamless and easy as the company claimed.

What's great about a custom suit is that it fits any body type like a glove.

Remember that even if you get a suit off the rack, there's a big chance that you'll have to pay extra to get it tailored so that it fits better anyway. So you can cut out that step entirely, and also cut out the middle man retailer and get it straight from the source.

For some context, here's a handy guide I put together on how your suit should fit.

So the easiest way to get a suit from Institchu is by going on the company's website. It's a seamless process and they have an easy guide for how to measure your body so you can get a suit that fits perfectly.

I also found a super easy YouTube video if you don't want to read about how to measure your body for a suit.

I should also note that if you live in New York City, you can go in to Institchu's showroom and they'll measure things for you in person, and you can look and feel the fabrics. Since that's what I did, here's the walkthrough on that...

I started by picking a fabric for the outside of the suit. It was a nice breathable wool.

After that I had a little fun and picked a fabric for the inside of the suit jacket.

Once all that was done, I got measured. Again, the idea here is to measure yourself, but if you don't want to, get a friend to help.

It takes about three weeks after you measure yourself and select the fabrics for the suit to arrive on your doorstep.

    Here's the finished jacket:

The lining really added some personality.

And here's another fun detail I added to the suit, it's called a sleeve ribbon (but if you're trying to save money, you definitely don't have to get wild with the additions).

    And here's the final product:

And here's what it looked like when I took it for a spin at a recent wedding

Overall if you have to wear suits often or have a lot of weddings or special events coming up, I'd absolutely recommend a made-to-measure suit.

The process at Institchu was seamless.

It's easy, worth the money, and will be the best investment you can make in a suit because it's specially made to your specific body type.

You have a lot of options in terms of customization so you can have fun with it by designing the inside fabric specifically how you like, picking specific button colors and style, and a host of other customizations.

What's great is that if the company notices that there are some discrepancies with your own measurements, they'll contact you just to be sure.

For a starting price of $399, this is something I'd definitely do again.

But I will say if you need a suit in a hurry or in the last minute, Institchu might not be the best option. If you have a lot of time though, this is a great affordable option where you don't have to do much to get something that looks amazing on you.

The Institchu suit was provided to BuzzFeed free of charge but we were not obligated to positively review it.
