5 Better Places To Look Over Paris Than From The Top Of The Eiffel Tower

Yes, the third platform of the Eiffel Tower does have one exceptional view over Paris but it gets so busy you have to wait all day to cram in with the hoards and it's too far west to gaze upon a truly magnifique panorama. Far from Romantic. If you haven't got all day to queue for the lift or the energy to climb the stairs then seek out one of Paris' other (often free) viewing points to enjoy a quieter gaze over the city of love. 1. Tour Montparnasse

Simply the best vantage point to see all of Paris. From the 56th floor of this tower you can look out over the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Montmartre and the Luxembourg Garden from a fresh southernly perspective.

2. Parc de Belleville

Parc de Belleville in the 20th arrondissement sits in an edgy area over in the east of the french capital. Inaugurated in 1988 this pretty park sits at an altitude on 108 metres above sea level, it is the highest park in Paris and offers a calm view over the rooftops.

3. Buttes Chaumont

From the pagoda at the top of one of the Parisian's favourite parks you can look out towards the Sacré-Cœur and beyond. In the 1860's Hausmann created a stunning hilly park - with a waterfalls and caves in its centre - in the 19th arrondissement for the people and they still flock to enjoy this incredible view and scenery.

4. Sacré-Cœur

No trip to Paris is complete without a stroll up the Montmartre Hill to look out over Paris. It gets busy so make the most of some insider knowledge and go to the dome of the Sacré-Cœur for an even better vantage point that allows you to view up to 30km on a clear day.

5. Galeries Lafayette

If the shopping gets too much then head to the top of this iconic department store. Not many people know about it's lovely roof terrace and the venture up to the top rewards you with 360 degree views and a great new look at the beautiful nearby Opera House.
