There are a few misconceptions about shyness. "Some people still equate introvert and shy, and that's just definitely, empirically not true," Professor Jonathan Cheek, a psychologist at Wellesley College, told BuzzFeed Science.

Cheek has done research that shows being shy, being unsociable, and being introspective are all very different things, and they don't necessarily overlap. People can be shy but still really need social interaction, just as people can dislike spending time with other people but not be the least bit shy.
