You may have heard by now that Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake are starring in a new animated feature, Trolls, based on those dolls everyone loved in the '80s and '90s.
Remember? You must. We ALL had one.
Seems kinda weird, right? Like, maybe that's not the best idea for a movie? Well, you're WRONG. Watch the first full-length trailer below and get ready for your heart to explode.
Kendrick voices Poppy, our optimistic, wild-haired heroine. She sings, she dances, she has glitter freckles — she's overall adorable.
And Timberlake plays Branch, the paranoid survivalist of Troll Village, who spends most of his time readying his fortified bunker for the inevitable end of days.
But Branch has good reason to be afraid. The Trolls were, at one time, hunted and eaten by vicious creatures called Bergens.
But after 20 years of living Bergen-free, one stumbles upon Troll Village and captures Poppy's closest friends.
So Poppy enlists Branch's help to travel to Bergen Town and rescue them.
The movie's going to feature a lot of musical numbers, both old and new. Timberlake wrote four original songs for the film and also served as Executive Music Producer. "This is my first time, I’ve never been the music producer for a film," he said at a press event last week.
The movie also features covers of classics, like "The Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel, music by Earth, Wind & Fire, "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper, and "Clint Eastwood" by Gorillaz.
And the two stars seemed to have a great time working together. "It’s been fun to work specifically with Anna," Timberlake said, "because she’s such a good singer. She doesn’t fancy herself that, but I’m pretty snobby anyway and it’s been so much fun to work with her."
"[Trolls] had no real history, so we got to create an entire world," Walt Dohrm, the film's co-director said.
"We wanted to make a movie that would serve up happiness to the world. The world needs a little happiness."
