Can You Pick Rory Gilmore's Best Boyfriend?

Look, Jess is definitely not perfect. He shouldn’t have ghosted on Rory when he went to California, he should have stayed away from that goose, and he definitely shouldn’t have been sassy with the one and only Emily Gilmore at Friday night dinner. But he challenged Rory intellectually, he kept up with her wit, and he did grow up. And when he grew up, he was the only guy who wanted to see Rory fulfill her full potential; he’s the one who gave her a harsh reality check when she dropped out of Yale. So sure, he’s not the best, but he’s the best of Rory’s romantic interests.

Dean was the quintessential High School Boyfriend. He was sweet and devoted, often to a fault. He set the bar so high for Rory’s future boyfriends as far as gift-giving — he built her a goddamn car — but Rory outgrew him (as most of us do our High School Boyfriends). Dean was kind of a townie, tbh. And when he and Rory tried to pick up where they left off later in life, the consequences were disastrous. They were really, truly, heartbreakingly done by the end.

Logan could be such a douchebagel. Remember when he sunk his family’s yacht and gave zero fucks? Remember when he kept refusing to commit to Rory because he was a spoiled rich kid playboy? Remember when Christopher met him and loved him and that made PERFECT sense because they’re both the WORST? At heart, Logan will always be a butt-faced miscreant.

Marty was a Nice Guy who turned out to be Not Actually Such A Nice Guy. Overall, he was extremely forgettable and kind of a huge liar. It’s just a bummer that he came between Lucy and Rory, who was one of the only friends Rory had outside of Logan’s Band of Lametoids.

Tristan was so tortured and secretly sensitive, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was an unforgivable dick to Rory in that way only high school boys can be unforgivable dicks. Remember when he nicknamed her Mary? Remember when he pretty much ruined Paris’ carefully directed rendition of "Romeo and Juliet"? Sure, his dad was kind of the worst, but just ask Rory out on a date instead of mean-flirting with her, Tristan. Ugh.

Robert was hot, and his Quentin Tarantino costume was clever. But Robert was kind of like Logan Lite. They were both entitled, presumptuous dudes, it’s just that Logan was a sliver more entitled and presumptuous.
