A man in Taiwan has been arrested after he was caught roaming the streets dressed as a dinosaur during an air defense drill in a southern city.

Police tracked down the man after video footage emerged online of what appeared to be a dinosaur on the streets of Kaohsiung during the annual Wan An air defense exercise.

Traffic bans are imposed in the city during the 30-minute drill, during which all vehicles are required to pull over on the road and people are asked to remain indoors.

The 29-year-old drink shop worker, identified only by his last name Kao, said when he saw the deserted streets, he thought it would be fun to put on his dinosaur costume and terrorise the city.

Kao said he was unaware that his actions were against the law.

Authorities say he may be fined between 30,000 New Taiwan Dollars ($925) to 150,000 New Taiwan Dollars ($4,628).
