Middle finger is taking over from the two fingers here now I think. All this reminds me of Spike in Buffy :) But really we aren’t all that rude and aggressive! Most of these I would understand as code in say, a political debate, ‘I hear what you say’ and such like as the audience find this less rude than direct confrontation so it is better for the politician’s image. Some of the old Labour guys that had been miners etc were a bit more plain speaking. And we still say excuse me quite unsarcastically when someone bumps into us just in case it was our fault. Well usually. When someone carelessly bumps me on the head with a bag when I’m in my seat on the train and it clearly isn’t my fault I probably just glower or say ‘oy’ inaudibly.
