Trump's Progress - As Predicted By William Hogarth
William Hogarth (1697-1764) was an English painter, printmaker, and satirist. His work ranged from portraits to comic strip-like series of pictures called "modern moral subjects." Of his series' such as "The Rake's Progress" and "The Harlot's Progress", Hogarth said, "I turned my thoughts to a still more novel mode...to compose pictures on canvas similar to representations on the stage...my picture is my stage, and men and women my players exhibited in a 'dumb' show." Sadly, we don't have anyone with Hogarth's eye for detail and detection of moral turpitude today, but we can see some parallels between his work and our own political 'dumb' show.
