Aussies Are Realising Tim Tams Come With A Health Rating And This Won't Stop Me Because I Can't Read

Can you add up the health stars from each packet if you eat them all in one sitting? Asking for a friend.

There are certain unspoken rules when it comes to Australian food: A hot roast chook from Woolies must always be paired with a tub of coleslaw, Milo must be always added before the milk and, if you open a packet of Tim Tams, it's perfectly acceptable to eat the entire tray yourself.

Us Aussies understand that certain rules are not, ahem, dietician-approved, but we've lived quite happily following them nonetheless. Which is what makes the following discovery so deeply unsettling.

In an effort to curb the Australian people's love of Tim Tam slams, Reddit user u/midsizenun discovered that all packets — even single serve biccies — come with a shameful health star rating of 0.5.

I know for a fact these health star ratings haven't haunted our Tim Tams forever, because, as an avid fan, I've never noticed it on any of the packaging until now. Exhibit A:

Which begs the question, has our consumption of Tim Tams increased to the point that the government feels it necessary to intervene and bring our attention to just how unhealthy they really are?

We may never have the answers, but I, for one, shan't be letting the government dictate how and when I choose to inhale a family-sized tray of Tim Tams.
