Victoria Will Get A Public Holiday For The AFL Grand Final

    The new Victorian Premier-elect, Daniel Andrews, has announced an extra public holiday for the state next year: Grand Final Friday.

    The public holiday will coincide with the annual Grand Final Parade on October 2nd.

    "I think it'll be a fantastic opportunity for families to spend time together and to share in what’s an iconic event," Andrews told 3AW.

    "I think that it's just about recognising that families work hard, a lot of people are under a lot of pressure, and it's just the right thing to do."

    The announcement, which means Victoria will now have two public holidays for sporting events (the other being the Melbourne Cup), was met with mixed reactions.
