19 Clues About A.D.'s Identity You Missed In "Pretty Little Liars"

HELLO! If you're reading this, you've definitely watched the Pretty Little Liars finale, RIGHT?! Because this post is full of spoilers. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

First of all, in the Season 7 poster, Spencer is framed differently to the rest of the girls.

We see both of her eyes, while all the other girls only have one eye showing. This could foreshadow the fact that there are two "Spencers".

This is the twitter bio for Troian Bellisario, the actress who plays Spencer. But only sometimes.

Remember that letter from Mary Drake that Spencer got from the board game?

It was addressed "for my child". That means that Mary could have originally written it for Alex, the child she knew had been given up for adoption in England. That explains how A.D. got a hold of a letter that we assumed was meant for Spencer. The letter references "being an orphan" which we know was Alex's fate, and not Spencer's.

A scene from the first episode of Season 7 showed Hanna being held captive in a barn by A.D.. While there, "Spencer" appeared to Hanna "in a dream" to help her escape.

Lol, jk, that was Alex all along. The biggest clue: The Spencer in Hanna's "dream" didn't have bangs, while the real one definitely did.

And Mary Drake dropped this whopper in the same episode, when talking to Hanna.

We found out early this season that Mary Drake had a baby who was put up for adoption.

This scene shows Spencer and Aria talking to the doctor who delivered Mary's babies when she was in Radley. It's from Episode 8, before we found out that Spencer is also Mary's kid. The doctor says he delivered a boy (Charlotte), who was given to Mrs DiLaurentis. Then a few years later he delivered another baby, which he says "was put in the temporary custody of County Family Services".

We now know he was talking about Alex Drake, because Veronica told Spencer that she held her “five minutes” after her birth.

Then of course, there was the shady airport scene which set alarm bells ringing straight away.

Ezra was at the airport, where he ran into "Spencer", having a heated conversation with Wren. This Spencer was dressed all in black, whereas the Spencer we'd seen in a previous scene was wearing a white coat. This scene was also never mentioned again, and a lot of people took it as the final confirmation that Spencer's twin was a canon storyline.

Another twin scene was the one in 7x18 when Spencer met up with Toby in his cabin, where they had sex.

In that scene, Toby even said: “That doesn’t sound like the Spencer I know.” Hmmm, probably because it wasn't.

Also, the actor who plays Toby tweeted this ~seemingly innocent~ commentary on the episode.

Spencer was always wearing a watch, while her twin was not.

In the airport scene and the Toby sex scene, "Spencer" is bare-wristed. In every other scene in these episodes, she's wearing her signature black watch.

We should have known! I.Marlene gave us this clue about watches on Twitter.

Similarly, the airport scene opens with Ezra looking at his WATCH.

The actor who plays Caleb gave us a giant fucking hint.

"You've never met them," he told US Weekly, when they asked who A.D. is. "You kind of have. When you see it, you'll understand what I'm saying."

Sounds a lot like a twin to me, mate.

Having Aria and Mona FaceTime fake versions of themselves foreshadowed a fake Spencer.

Remember back when Spencer was in Radley, and she had this vision of a mini version of her?

Yeah, that was Dance Moms' Maddie Ziegler. Was this foreshadowing a "two Spencers" storyline?

This is a bit of a stretch, but hey. This shot from Charlotte's dollhouse shows her ideal childhood.

That image on the wall shows three sets of handprints. We know Charlotte and Spencer are siblings, but who's the third? Alex. And Charlotte was close with Alex during the dollhouse storyline.

Also, in the dollhouse, the girls came face to face with A (aka Charlotte). Spencer's reflection lined up perfectly with the mask.

Veronica dropped this line, way back in Season 4 when Spencer was dealing with a pill addiction.
