Artist Gunduz Aghayev is a 36-year-old cartoonist from Azerbaijan who's currently based in France.
Aghayev told BuzzFeed that the problematic side of modern society serves as inspiration for his work.
He's illustrated subjects ranging from the evolution of men and war...
...to the intermixing of selfie culture with religious imagery.
Aghayev has never shied away from addressing injustice in his art, including injustice in his own country. Due to his involvement with Art for Democracy a campaign that advocated for human rights in his native Azerbaijan, Aghayev had to leave his home country in 2014.
However, that hasn't stopped him from making work he feels reflects modern society. In his most recent project, called Modern Zombies, Aghayev portrays how people behave based on mass influences and power.
The project mostly features people acting as zombies, and covers subjects such as war...
...intolerance...
...and religion.
He said each illustration takes him anywhere from three hours to a month to make.
After he posted his work on social media earlier this month, the project has since gone viral. Aghayev says the reaction has varied, with people from Cuba to Japan commenting on his work.
He added that people have written from various countries about their own issues, and he is now trying to incorporate that into his current work.
Aghayev went on to tell BuzzFeed what he hopes to get across through the project. "I am trying give some social messages through illustrations. Generally, my illustrations call for peace, tolerance, and secularism. In modern times, any war or terror should be a disgrace to humanity."
