Eat Your Way Through A Day At Home And We'll Give You A Hobby To Try During Lockdown

Mid-afternoon, time for some tea! What are you pairing your cuppa with?

To finish the day, you obviously need dessert. What are you going for?

A virtual book club won’t just help you pass the time with reading (and force you to actually read the book within a certain timeframe) it’ll mean you get to socialise too! Just set up a regular video call with your friends who want to take part, alongside a Whatsapp or Facebook group so people can make suggestions, then enjoy knowing you have something social to look forward to in your calendar.

If you’ve always thought about learning a new language but put it off, now certainly seems like the time to give it a go. There’s loads of online resources – both paid and free – so you can start a course at The Open University or download Duolingo and commit to doing a bit each day! Either way, you’ll come out of all this with a new skill.

If you’re short on outdoor space, you can still get to enjoy nature! There’s lots of windowsill-friendly herb gardens out there (so your cooking will benefit from this new hobby too), or why not turn your room into a mini indoor jungle and while away some time tending to your various plant babies?

Get hands-on with embroidery! It’s surprisingly easy to pick up once you get the hang of the more simple stitches, and it’s pretty inexpensive too – you just need a needle, some thread, and a bit of fabric! It’s super relaxing, and once you’ve mastered it you’ll be able to customise your tote bags, T-shirts, and more!

Spending more time at home means sitting around more, which can make your body feel stiffer than usual. Yoga will offer you a really good stretch and all you need is a mat and to select from the vast array of YouTube channels out there (Yoga With Adriene is great, and popular for a good reason). There’s lots of different types of yoga too, so whether you want to calm your mind or work up a sweat, you’ll be able to find something that works for you.

Trying your hand at watercolours is a really soothing way to pass the time, and you can get them for an affordable price which helps to ease the pressure of making masterpieces straight away! All you need is your imagination, and because watercolours are so versatile and fun to experiment with, they’ll keep you busy for quite a while.
