10 Things 2013 Has Taught Me

Personally, this was a hard year for me. However, I came out stronger. This is what I learned...

    1. Happiness is not found in any one person, place or thing

Happiness is a state of mind, it's something you choose, not something that just happens. If you are unhappy, then change your perspective. If you're breathing, there is hope on the other side

    2. No matter how much you screw things up, it is still only the past

Face it, you can't control everything, and you definitely CAN NOT change the past. Stop dwelling on it, your life can get better and will.

    3. You can't love anyone if you can't love yourself

Depending on a guy/girl to love you is so dangerous if you're using it as compensation for loving yourself. It can not be done.

    4. People will fail you

Every single one of us is human and to expect anyone to be more than that is irrational. Just because someone fails you doesn't mean they don't love you, it just means they aren't perfect.

    5. You can never fall so hard that you can't pick yourself back up again

While every person has different circumstances, we all have equal freedom of will. If you don't like where you are, do something about it. Trust me, no one cares about your mistakes as much as you do.

    6. Dream Big, but don't put names on your dreams

When you meet a guy or girl, and you begin to dream together, its so hard once you break up to dream about anything. If you and your ex dreamed of opening an irish pub, you break up and its still what you wanna do, go do it without him!

    7. Just because you take longer to heal, doesn't mean you won't

Some people can get over an issue overnight. Others, it can take years. Think about it though, once you have healed, you become so, so, so much stronger.

    8. Don't ever put yourself in a box

You already have the rest of the world doing that for you.

    9. You can't ignore the lies about yourself that replay in your head, you have to answer them back with the truth

"I'm ugly. I'm fat. I'm not good at anything. No one would even care if I died." We have all heard them and it's not enough to just ignore those thoughts. You HAVE to respond. "I'm beautiful. I'm willing to learn to do anything, and succeed in it. I am loved by those around me. I matter."

    10. You can't run away from your problems, they will follow you

I definitely tried that, but I realized no matter where I went, I was always there. I found true freedom when I stopped running and faced myself, even in the middle of the chaos.
