Netflix Is Releasing A Spin-Off To "Bird Box" And The Trailer Looks Just As Terrifying As The Original Movie

Taking place in a parallel timeline, we'll get to relive all of the panic and chaos of the first movie — but in a new setting.

Let's take a moment to travel back in time to 2018. Prince Harry and Megan Markle had just gotten married in a royal wedding that captivated the world, Serena Williams made headlines for her badass response to a dress code implemented by the French Tennis Federation, and the #MeToo movement was in full swing — resulting in Hollywood being put under the microscope.

Amidst all that, there was also the release of Bird Box — a thrilling horror movie that, at the time, became Netflix's most-watched film with over 280 million hours being viewed.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world populated with mysterious entities which cause people who look at them to kill themselves, Bird Box followed the plight of Malorie Hayes (played by Sandra Bullock) and her two children as they attempted to locate a sanctuary.

To avoid coming face to face with the entities, both Malorie and her children wear blindfolds for the entirety of their journey — meaning that they cannot see anything or each other.

It's a horrifying and suspenseful premise that resulted in all of us being glued to our screens, terrified about what might happen next.

Well, if you had ever hoped for something of a sequel, Netflix has announced that they're plunging us back into the world of Bird Box for a series of spin-offs. The first of these, titled Bird Box Barcelona, will be released on July 14.

Taking place in a parallel timeline to the original, Bird Box Barcelona follows Sebastian and his young daughter, Anna, as they attempt to escape the city after encountering demonic creatures that are capable of driving a human to end their own life.

The trailer, released by Netflix, also teases Sebastian and Anna facing an "even more sinister" threat than seen in the original Bird Box.

Personally, I am beyond excited to watch Bird Box Barcelona. Whenever I watch movies like this, I am also left wondering what's going on in other parts of the planet — and this film basically answers that question.

Plus, judging by the trailer, Bird Box Barcelona has plenty of intense, edge-of-your-seat moments — which is what made the first movie so good.

What do you think of this Bird Box spin-off? Will you be watching?
