Video Vibes: tHrOnE
The holidays are finally over. Now it's time for a new year, new us. It can be hard to face all of those resolutions. We may have set ourselves up to fail . . . again. It's so much easier to just watch videos or take a nap. The Connecticut band - tHronE- knows all about being unmotivated and being exhausted from doing nothing. They have a new lyric video for "The Fatigue" that you can watch right now while you are probably already watching YouTube.
Friday Favorite Video Premiere: Dear Spring
Relationships are hard. I mean once you find a couple of friends, it takes work to maintain the friendships. You have to communicate beyond texting sometimes. You know like go hang out and talk to them in person. Anyway, the new video by Dear Spring, "Absent," is about how it feels to have a lack of connection with people. It's a pretty kickass song. Check it out ASAP. Reconnect with your friends while watching the video. It could be a thing again.
Friday Favorite Video Premiere: Better Days
Well, I hope you are surviving this lovely Black Friday. I know that people have been in the stores almost non-stop since Thursday. It wasn't even Friday yet and people were battling over all kinds of stuff. Tis the season to fight for flatscreen TVs and other shiny things. If you have time before your next Black Friday battle, check out this video from Better Days. You might see a resemblance to some of those die-hard Thursday/Friday shoppers.
Friday Favorite Video Premiere: The Stash
Welcome to the premiere of The Stash's video for "I Can't Feel." Is it possible to watch the video and be practically cured of your Seasonal Affective Disorder? No one can say for sure. However, the song is catchy and the skyline is beautiful. So it won't hurt to watch it a few hundred times. I'm not ashamed to admit that I have watched it about ten times this morning.
Video Vibes: Zander
If you're not ready to let that summer feeling go quite yet, then check out the Rock Steady video by Zander.
Video Vibes: Paris Monster
Paris Monster has released their latest video, "Hot Canyon Air," from their upcoming album, Lamplight.
Friday Favorite Video: Sarah And The Safe Word
"You're Everything I Don't Need." It's like Sarah and the Safe Word is looking into my soul. The video is more risque than the videos that I've chosen before. However, I cannot resist listening to Gothic cabaret. I think these are my people.
Winyl Podcast To Debut This Weekend
Best-selling author Anthony Bozza will be debuting his podcast, Winyl, at the Music Tastes Good Festival this weekend. Although Bozza will be talking with chefs and musicians on the podcast during the festival, he recently answered a few questions that I had about pumpkin spice wine and writing. Pumpkin spice wine is a real thing by the way.
In The Taste Tent: Christine Rivera
Christine Rivera of Galaxy Taco will be in the Taste Tent at the Music Tastes Good Festival, Sept 29-30. Visit Rivera and she might give you the secret to the perfect tortilla. Not really! Her food secrets are mostly confidential. However, she will have an all-access pass to excellent food that she might share with you.
Friday Favorite Video: The Bamboos
What's not to love about this video by The Bamboos? The piano intro, the vocals, the horns, the lighting - it's all great. The thing that I may love the most is that the singer, Kylie Auldist, rocks the dress and tennis shoes. It's is the perfect song for getting ready to go out with friends and get lit up. I do like the ritual of playing music and putting on makeup. This is going on the makeup ritual playlist.
Food Truck Love: Mad Dumplings
If I had more free time, I would visit every food truck in America. A picture says a thousand words and all of Mad Dumplings pictures say "Yum." The pictures of the food from Mad Dumplings of Irvine, California have just about convinced me to get on a plane. They are going to be at the Music Tastes Good Festival on September 29-30 with other food vendors, chefs, and bands.
Friday Favorite Music Video: Calling All Captains
I'm not a helicopter mom. I'm more of a progressive mom who wants their kids to learn how to do things so they can function in life when I'm not with them. Still, l worry about how disconnected my middle kid has become since getting a cell phone. How is she going to know how to make conversation when it's a real person in front of her instead of a screen? What if the power is out and she can't look up crafty ideas on Pinterest? She's going to miss out on so much in life unless she starts looking up once in awhile. The video by Calling All Captains is about a similar subject - missing out by being disconnected from people.
Friday Favorite Video: Youth Fountain
Relationships are difficult for everyone. Even the best relationships hit a few bumps in the road. When we're young, we want to find our soulmate and put your lock on a bridge. It's super romantic, right?! By the time you're in your mid-40s, you are running away from the slightest hint of commitment like the chick in this video by Youth Fountain. I would find some bolt cutters before jumping into the water but that's just me. Tyler Zanon made the following comment about the song: “Rose Coloured Glass is being able to look back on toxic relationships, learning from the past and ultimately growing from them”. Seriously though, I have learned that bolt cutters can come in handy.
Friday Favorite Video: Active Bird Community
Who doesn't want to be a superstar for at least one day? One day out of life to be celebrated. One day to be chosen as someone's number one. So today this video is my number one. I love the song. I love that mint bicycle that matches the mint guitar. I love that brown jacket with the feathery/furry collar. In fact, I think I had a very similar jacket that I loved in 1996. Alas, I wore it out and it fell apart. The beauty of this video is that it won't wear out from watching it too much. If you'll excuse me, I have a video to watch and adore.
Friday Favorite Video: DBMK
This is an accurate video of my sleeping habits, except that I don't write on mirrors with lipstick. I love lipstick too much. However, I do feel like there's a rock band in my room keeping me awake. My boyfriend says that it's YouTube and I have the volume turned up again. That's how I get turnt up these days. Anyway, check out this video by DBMK.
Friday Favorite Video: Shallow Pools
The summer is slipping away and I haven't been to the beach yet. There's still time to have fun in the sun. Whenever I see the Shallow Pools video, it reminds me of everything fun- glitter, confetti, swimming, retro dresses and staying up late writing about what a jerk that one dude was. Then you shake off that heartbreak and go to the beach or the bar next to the beach. There are still good times to be had this summer. Start your good time by watching this video.
Friday Favorite Video: Red Wanting Blue
This song is about something that we all want: friendships that stand the test of time. So many people don't have connections to people like we used to before social media took over our lives. Really, we all want a few good friends to go for bike rides while wearing flashlight helmets. I didn't even know I needed a BFF and a flashlight helmet until now. Thanks Red Wanting Blue for reminding us that friendships are still important. I'll be following you on Twitter until we go for that bike ride.
Friday Favorite Video: Petal
Petal's video for "Better Than You" is joyful and happy. If I were going to have a talk show, I would want ice cream involved. We just got a karaoke machine at my house so maybe it could happen. Also, the streamers would make both my cat, Manny Pacquimeow and I extremely happy.
Friday Favorite Video: Good Friend - "D.L.B"
If you're like me then you need a boost of energy. The band, Good Friend, is not an energy drink or a cup of coffee but they are helping me to get through the day. They're going places and living the dream. I'm living vicariously through them for today and probably the rest of the summer. We all need a friend like Good Friend - full of energy and adventures.
