1. The Treehouse, Fernie Castle, Fife
At over £400 a night, this luxurious treehouse in the grounds of Fernie Castle isn’t exactly affordable, but it's more magical than a herd of Harry Potters. The tree branches grow right up inside it, and it's got an awesome bath and a huge bed. Treat yo' self.
2. Croft 103, Durness, Sutherland
The most stressful decision you’ll have to make if you stay in this eco-hideout in the far north of Scotland is whether to take a bath together inside…or outside. Both share the same romantic view of the serene waters of Loch Eriboll, as does the king-size bed.
3. Dovecot Cottage, Edinburgh
This heavenly wee stone cottage used to be home to hundreds of pigeons (the owners have cleaned it since then, thankfully). The Dovecot is hidden at the end of a rose garden, and the bedroom is filled with glowing lights, which sit in the stone recesses above the bed – originally nesting boxes for the birds.
4. Roulotte Retreat, Melrose, Scottish Borders
Roulotte Retreat is a unique campsite near the pretty town of Melrose. It’s home to seven roulottes: dainty French gypsy caravans that each have their own theme. This wagon is called Karlotta, and her colours are Moroccan-influenced with purples, reds, and golds.
5. The Boatshed, Ardanaiseig, Argyll
According to the website, this unique little converted Victorian boathouse on the banks of Loch Awe "oozes romantic bliss", which sounds a bit messy. It's a popular boutique wedding venue, and you get the use of a rowing boat for the duration of your stay.
6. The Bus Stop, Gifford, East Lothian
If you like your accommodation to be quirky as well as romantic, then look no further than this converted bus. There's a wooden hot tub to soak in while you look at the stars at night, or you could just look at them through the skylight above your bed instead.
7. Aikwood Tower, Selkirk, Scottish Borders
Want to feel like a sexy extra from Game of Thrones? Head to Aikwood Tower, an imposing 16th-century castle that's been converted into romantic self-catering accommodation. Its forbidding walls hide a luxurious, plush interior full of log fires, fur rugs, and truly gigantic beds. Direwolves aren't allowed though, sadly.

This remote, purpose-built cabin in the hills of Eigg looks out to sea. It's kitted out for use as an artist’s studio, but it’s available to non-artists too. It has an outdoor shower, which is a bit brisk, but the water's nice and hot, so you can scrub each others' backs while you admire the view.
10. Treetop House, Ullapool
This unique clifftop eco-cottage in the Highlands is perched on the side of a gorge overlooking a waterfall, has its own sauna, and panoramic views of the sea and heather moors that surround it. You'll feel like lofty kings and queens of all you survey.
11. The Seashell, Ardnamurchan
This little retreat is shaped like a seashell, and curves round and round inside. As you walk along the spiral you'll come to a large bed, then, in the heart of the building, a wet room with a walk-in shower. It's very private too–your only neighbours will be highland cattle and the occasional eagle.

These two snowdrop-shaped woodland tents are set in a picturesque clearing beside the sea, and are lit with fairy lights. They've also got an gorgeous outdoor kitchen, so they’re ideal for couples who like to get close to nature, but without having to rough it.
13. Beach Bay Cottage, Isle of Lewis
This fancy, turf-roofed stone cottage has a two-person sauna and a jacuzzi, as well as amazing views out over the Atlantic ocean. It's inspired by ancient neolithic design and it's extremely secluded, not to mention magical. If you're newlyweds, the owners will throw in a honeymoon hamper packed with local produce too.
14. Shepherd's Bothy, Isle of Iona
If you want to romance your S.O. without breaking the bank, then look no further than this charming wee hut on the stunning Isle of Iona. It's tucked away in a field beside the sea, it's sheltered by hills, and rocky outcrops, and costs just £30pp per night to stay in.
15. Stucktaymore, Killin, Perthshire
This stylish, opulent hunting lodge in Killin – the gateway to the Scottish Highlands – has more open fireplaces than you can shake a stick at, not to mention thick rugs, exposed beams and stonework, and a huge Aga in the kitchen. So snug.
16. Eagle Brae, Inverness-shire
Eagle Brae is a collection of fairytale log cabins beside beautiful Glen Strathfarrar. Each cabin has a roof made with wildflowers, and they’re filled with hand-carved wooden panels featuring stags, Celtic knotwork, and Pictish motifs.
