It might look a bit like a brochure for a pony trekking holiday in Clackmannanshire, but the distant view of Winterfell gives it away a bit.

Is this Scotland, or Westeros from _Game of Thrones_?

This bizarre landscape couldn't look more _Game of Thrones_y if it tried, but it's actually the spectacular Quiraing on the Isle of Skye, a series of amazing rock pinnacles formed by an ancient landslide.

Correct answer: Scotland

What about this?

It's King's Landing! Come for the scenery, stay for the parade of naked women being publicly shamed for having affairs with their cousins.

Where would you find this city?

It might look like a screenshot from Beyond The Wall, but this is actually the crystal clear Loch Achtriochtan, which reflects the dramatic northern ridges of the Bidean Nam Bian (Three Sisters) mountain range near Glencoe.

Where do you think this is?

It definitely looks ominous enough to be in Westeros, but this is actually Kilchurn Castle, a ruined 15th century fortress that sits at the north eastern end of Loch Awe in Argyll.

What about this castle?

No, you won't find any priestesses of R'hllor giving birth to shadow demons here: It's Smoo Cave, a 200 foot long series of interconnected sea caverns near the village of Durness in the Highlands.

This forest north of the Wall would make a lovely Christmas card, if you didn't mind that your Chistmas card featured a soon-to-be-murdered member of the Night's Watch.

Is this a Scottish forest, or a Westerosi one?

This fortress is actually Dunnottar – from the Scottish Gaelic Dùn Fhoithear, which means “fort on the shelving slope”. The site is thought to have been occupied since Pictish times (5000 BC to 700 AD).

Where would you find this castle?

This cliff might look like part of the Iron Islands, but it's actually Neist Point, a dramatic headland that forms the most westerly point on Skye.

What about this cliff?

It's so scenic beyond the Wall. It's a bit of a shame about all the wights and White Walkers, really.

Is this in Scotland or Westeros?

This is the Twins, the seat of House Frey in the northern riverlands. Isn't it pretty? Nothing bad could possibly ever happen here.

This is Strome Castle, in Wester Ross. Yes, you read that correctly: There really is a Wester Ross in Scotland. We should sue George R.R. Martin for plagiarism.

This would make a really nice National Trust property, but it's actually the melted, twisted ruins of Harrenhal, the largest castle in Westeros. Well it was, until massive fucking dragons burned it down.

This is a very traditional view of Edinburgh Castle, in that you can't actually see it at all because of the thick sea mist (or haar, as it's known in the 'burgh).

Where would you find this creepy place?

This is a group of White Walkers observing the battle at Hardhome, although the weather definitely seems pretty Scottish. Hope they brought midge repellent along.

And finally, where do you think this is?

Oh dear. You definitely don't know your King's Landings from your Kingussies. It might be a good idea to either rewatch _Game of Thrones_, visit Scotland, or both.
