40 Helpful Travel Products That'll Even Inspire Homebodies To Book A Trip

You can totally get out of your comfort zone but still ensure you're *comfortable.*

    1. A pocket-sized, refillable travel perfume atomizer you can fill with your signature scent without worrying that the TSA is going to snatch your full bottle (sigh).

    Elizabeth Lilly / BuzzFeed, www.amazon.com

BuzzFeed Shopping's Elizabeth Lilly loves this thing: "^ That's me pumping my signature perfume into one of these travel atomizers I've been using for about two years. It's also great to just throw in your purse on the reg for a fragrance re-up throughout the day. As you can see, it's about the size of my thumb and therefore takes up very little room. Plus! It's smaller than most rollerball travel fragrances you can pick up. This first one is working so well, that I just have the other three in storage. But if this one bites the dust this summer during travels, I'll be OK about digging into my stores to use one of the remaining three...especially at this price point."

Promising review: "I bought these due to traveling a lot for work and needing to cut down on the size of things in my carry-on bag for flying. I can bring four different perfumes now instead of one big one. They’re super easy to fill, haven’t leaked so far but I keep them in a sandwich bag while traveling just in case. I would 100% buy them again." —Emily

    2. High-waisted leggings, because structured pants are *not* welcome to join in on your travel day. Sorry, not sorry.

Promising review: "If you’re on the fence about buying these leggings, DO IT. I bought a black pair (plus size) to see how they’d fit and let me tell you! I have wide hips, big thighs, and a large behind, and these leggings fit perfectly! Even better, THEY ARE NOT SEE-THROUGH when I bend over!! I’ve *never* found leggings that weren’t sheer when I bent over before! I bought eight more in different colors and they all are the same quality! I love them so much that over a year later I bought two more black pairs!! I recommend these leggings to everyone I hear talking about the difficulties of finding good leggings. I swear I wear these to work three times a week, at least. I love them!!" —hali howard

Get them from Amazon for $10.49 (available in standard and plus sizes, three lengths, and 24 colors/patterns).

    3. A TSA-friendly toiletries set that'll make sure you don't have to ever go a day without your go-to products — these can be easily filled, cleaned, and re-filled as needed!

the set with bag and labels
close up of pots with lid and liner

BuzzFeed editor Elizabeth Lilly (who, in my opinion is a professional traveler) has this set:

"I own and love this set! it includes the zippered bag, four soft silicone bottles with leakproof caps, three compact jars, and two toothbrush caps. I've used this set on many trips and for trips when I don't require body wash or shampoo (like to visit my parents), I use the extra room in the bag to shove in all my beauty products and daily contacts. Plus! It comes with labels that stay on the containers really well despite my thoroughly washing these containers between trips. I bought this set in spring 2019 and have, admittedly, lost a container or two. But the ones that I've held on to over dozens of trips have all held up well!"

Get it from Amazon for $14.79+ (available in 12 variations).

    4. A Trtl neck pillow, so you'll never wake up mid-flight to discover you've been out cold and drooling all over your neighbor's shoulder (yikes!) It's surprisingly supportive and looks waaaay more stylish than those U-shaped pillows.

BuzzFeed editor Ciera Velarde loves this product, she said:

"I've used this for the past few years and swear by it! Before this, I always found traditional neck pillows uncomfortable and would end up ditching them halfway through the flight and getting frustrated. The Trtl pillow is adjustable — you wrap the pillow around your neck and secure it with Velcro, and if you find it's too loose, just make it a bit tighter! I've truly never slept better on a plane than with this pillow."

Promising review: "I can't stop recommending this pillow to all of my friends! It has let me comfortably sleep on flights that take place on the most uncomfortable airplane seats. On long flights, I always need to prop up my hand and I rest my head on it. But this method always ends with my arm falling asleep and I end up waking up every 30 minutes. Now this pillow provides that exact same support without needing my arms to prop me up! It's small enough to fit in your bag and doesn't take up much space." —Simona Krifman

Get it from Amazon for $59.99 (available in four colors).

    5. Away's popular The Carry On for anyone who detests the hassle of checking a bag (no one wants to wait around at baggage claim after a long day of travel). It has plenty of space for a variety of outfits, shoes, all of your chargers, etc, and has a laundry compartment! It comes in an array of fun colors, and for an extra 20 bucks, you can add a USB charging port — no more draining your phone battery pre-flight. Plus, the TSA-approved lock means only you and airport security can access your belongings.

    Heather Braga / BuzzFeed, Away

I (Heather) have owned this bag for nearly five years and I'm such a fan. It rolls so smoothly that my just-learning-to-walk toddler had no issue pushing it around the airport for fun before our flight (seen above, left). I've never had an issue getting it into an overhead bin and the outer shell has stayed in great condition over the years (minus a few scratches, of course). My husband has one as well we loved The Carry On so much we invested in The Large (when you're a family-of-three sometimes it *is* easier to check a bag).

Promising review: "I was in Rome and Florence, Italy, for nine days, and the Away Carry-On was just perfect. From being able to charge up my iPhone at the airport or on the train traveling from Rome to Florence, it worked perfectly. Stylish and very versatile. It also kept my belongings packed beautifully, plus the perk of a laundry bag for my dirty clothes. Getting through security was a breeze, plus the added compliments of how beautiful it was. You have a customer for life. I was very happy and impressed." —Keith H.

    Jasmin Sandal / BuzzFeed, Alleyoop

My BuzzFeed shopping colleague Jasmin Sandal has this and loves it. She says:

"I didn't realize I'd ever use a makeup product in my 20s that had the ability to transport me back to something I used in sixth grade, but here we are; and here I am using a multitool pen... for my face. I gotta say, I love the concept of the Pen Pal from Alleyoop! After using all of the functions (eyeliner, highlighter, lip liner, eyebrow pencil), and as someone who LOVES makeup but was applying as little as humanly possible during lockdown, I think it’s a great tool for anyone looking to streamline their routine. It's ideal to use for touch-ups come the end of the work day, or a subtle, minimalist way to apply makeup in the a.m. The brow pencil is particularly soft and pigmented, and filled in my eyebrows quickly. I just adore the ease of application of each product, and appreciate the universal, does-it-all-for-you concept. Plus, it saves me so much room in my already overflowing makeup bag!"

Promising review: "Such a time saver to have this 4-in-1 tool! I use it daily and love that it is so compact." —Lauren F.

Get it from Alleyoop for $25 (available in three shades) or Amazon for $25 (available in two shades).

    7. luggage drink caddy to attach to your wheeled luggage — it'll become your saving grace when traveling. You can use it to hold your Starbies, phone, ID, etc. and prevent you from fumbling around for all those items while heading to the gate at the airport.

Promising review: "This cup holder is perfect! It helps me a lot! Last time I took a plane with a suitcase and a cup of coffee, when it’s my turn to check my passport and ticket, the coffee cup fell to the ground, and coffee sprinkled. It was a nightmare! This time I bought this cup holder; it did do me a favor! I don't have to worry about where my cup and phone are! I can free my hands to do other things. I love it so much! Hope you love it, too." —Philip

Get it from Amazon for $15.99+ (available in 33 colors).

    8. A digital luggage scale so you can head off to the airport confidently knowing you won't get a surprise overweight luggage fee. Toss it into your bag to ensure you're also good to go on the way home when your bag is chockfull of souvenirs.

You can also switch between pound and kilogram measurements.

Promising review: "This scale works and was accurate on four flights. First flight was a test at 46 pounds and Delta scales said it was 46 pounds. The next two flights were at 49 pounds and both United and Delta found it to be 49 pounds. The bag on the 4th flight weighed 49 but the United scale found it to be 48 pounds. Four different airports and scales proved that this scale is a good, low cost must have item for air travel." —Robert

Get it from Amazon for $8.99+ (available in five colors and as a pack of two).

    9. An airplane footrest that loops over the tray table to act as a lil' foot hammock so you can embrace Vacation Mode as soon as the cabin lights click off.

Promising review: "I’m a flight attendant, and I travel A LOT! This is a game-changer! Folds up super small in the cute bag they provide and really makes a difference when on those long flights. The people in front of me had no idea I was using it. Thanks for the great product!!!" —sarah rubin

Promising review: "This is perfect for travel. I've worn it as PJs, on a plane with a blazer, and for a nine-hour car trip. Super comfortable and goes anywhere. I'll definitely be getting more!" —My Cat Steve Judges My Purchases.

Another promising review: "I bought the navy blue to take on vacation after reading an article about how easy care these jumpsuits are. I loved it so much I bought the green. I take them out of my suitcase, hang them up, and they are ready to go in a few hours, no ironing needed. I get compliments every time I wear one of them." —AKSunshine

Get it from Amazon for $37.99+ (available in women's sizes S–3XL and 31 colors/patterns).

    11. A cute portable charger that'll basically take up .01% of the space in your "personal item" and save your butt when you realize your phone is at 13% after you've been scrolling TikTok for an hour before you've even gotten on the plane.

Check out a TikTok of the portable charger in action.

"This gadget gave my phone enough juice to ensure I made it through the entirety of the Taylor Swift concert after a day of traveling and running around prior. Can you imagine if my phone died without capturing 'Getaway Car' live with Jack Antonoff???? I charged it fully before hand and plugged it directly into my phone as needed. I loved that I was able to charge my phone while holding it and without having to fumble with any annoying cords. I'll definitely start popping this into my bag whenever I know I'm going to be out for extended periods of time." —Heather

Promising review: "The holy grail of portable chargers!!! I was traveling to Disney for vacation and knowing me, I would drain my battery with just taking pictures alone. It does exactly as described, pretty pink color, and I get one full charge of battery for my iPhone 11. Get it, you will not be disappointed!" —Meghan Doble

My colleague Marquaysa Battle owns and adores this hoodie. Here's what she has to say:

"I own this in black, and I actually, factually REFUSE to wear any other hoodie to the airport. I pull my sleep mask down, and it's a wrap, OK?! Asleep before takeoff. When you're wearing it and dedicating your travel style to it like me, then be sure to shout out the Pond Los Angeles that makes it! It's a woman-owned and Asian American-owned clothing and accessories brand based in Cali that intentionally uses a woman-led manufacturer to create its lovely pieces."

Promising review: "I fly a lot and am constantly trying to find a hoodie with a big hood to cover my eyes so I can catch up on some beauty sleep on the plane. I saw this product on Instagram and knew it would be a game-changer. I was able to use it recently for the first time on an early morning flight, and let me tell you, it is EVERYTHING I was looking for and more. It’s comfy, cozy, oversized, and the eye covers make you feel like you’re in a whole other world and not packed like a sardine on a plane. My over-ear headphone fit perfectly under it, and I got the best sleep I’ve had on a plane — EVER! Like other reviews have said, it is big, so size down if you want something a little more snug. It’s a little big, but I love my stuff oversized, so I am fine. I have been wearing it every day at home and can’t wait to get the black and blush one!" —Heather G.

Get it from Pond Los Angeles for $128 (available in sizes S and L).

    13. A simple luggage strap that'll act as the extra hand you wish you had when trying to lug all of your belongings through the airport — clip it to your suitcase and watch in awe as it holds your travel pillow for you.

Promising review: "Great product! First, it’s adorable. I love the color and fabric quilting, the gold zippers. Second, it is the perfect size for my jewelry when I travel. I don’t usually bring much jewelry so this is a good size for me. The necklaces stayed tangle-free, and there are enough small zippered compartments for my bracelets and larger earrings. I was concerned about the organizer only having a snap closure and not zipping up all the way, but everything stayed secure and nothing fell out of place, so there’s that. Overall, a great product and I would assume the other sizes and varieties are of similar quality." —Emily

Get it from Amazon for $19.99+ (available in two sizes and nine styles).

    15. And a waterproof toiletry bag you can hang instead of trying to fit your entire skincare routine on the too-small hotel bathroom countertop. It comes with four zip-up compartments and packs up into a cute lil' purse, making it the *perfect* travel companion/

Promising review: "I. Love. This. Bag. Seriously, I had a cheap toiletry bag from Target that essentially did the same thing, only way worse. It was too small, the hook didn't rotate so you could only hang it at an angle, if anything ever leaked, it would seep right through the bag, etc. But THIS bag has NONE of those issues! It fits everything I need and then some, meaning I don't have to skimp on my 10-step Korean skincare routine when I travel anymore. It never leaks. And I love that the hook swivels so you can hang it anywhere, and your stuff hangs perfectly. I also love the handle and the overall flatter shape. It makes it so easy to travel with! Cannot recommend this bag enough." —KaiEli

They come with three sizes of silicone tips to comfortably fit your ears and a charging case that provides more than 24 hours of listening time.

Promising review: "I’m thrilled. I love the fact there are multiple ear tips, and the small ones fit my ears great. Thrilled with the noise-cancelling feature while I stare at a family member yapping loudly on the phone, and I don’t have to crank my volume up to drown them out. The controls are easy. It pauses music when I take an earbud out, so I’m not fumbling to pause and then yanking an earbud out while yelling, 'what?' I’ve never spent this much on headphones, but these are worth the sub-$200 I paid." —Pixie

And here's more from BuzzFeed Shopping editor Emma Lord: "I have a pair of these, and they're not playing around. Once they're securely in your ear, you can toggle the headphones between noise-cancelling and regular sound, depending on your situation. I've been working from home, and the noise canceling is so effective that I can work next to a window where my neighbor is doing heavy construction and I don't hear anything louder than a faint buzzing. It's quieter than if I'd just plugged my ears with my own fingers. I'm also a runner, and these don't budge when you're sweating, which is nice. It's also handy that these toggle out of noise-cancellation mode, because I feel better being able to hear traffic and other people around me when I'm out and about. The TL;DR is: I love these so much I have zero interest in owning another pair of headphones for as long as I live." For more, read her full AirPod Pros review!

    17. And an AirFly Pro wireless transmitter that'll let you connect those darling new earbuds to watch whatever ~*movie of the month*~ is playing during your flight (a must-have for anyone who routinely forgets to load up their phone or tablet with their own movie to pass the time).

BuzzFeed editor Chelsea Stuart put this product to the test. She said:

"Last year I splurged on some AirPod Maxes and for the amount of money I threw down on them, I was determined to get as much use out of them as possible and that included on plane rides. With the AirFly Pro, I can connect my headphones via Bluetooth and use the seat-back screen without having to fiddle with the free wired headphones they hand out that 1.) have horrible sound quality and 2.) don't fit my ears in the slightest (I swear my ear canals are tiny or something??).

PS: the AirFly Pro comes with a USB-C charging cable, travel pouch, keychain holder, quick start guide, and manual."

Get it from Amazon for $54.95+ (available in three models and two colors).

    18. A gorgeous luggage tag to attach to your very standard black suitcase that everyone and their mother has — no more double guessing whether the bag you've dragged off the carousel is actually yours.

reviewer photo of the blue wave luggage tag attached to a suitcase

It has a slot for an address card or business card as well as a privacy flap.

Promising review: "I purchased these for a trip to Hawaii, I love the design and was primarily wanting them to differentiate my luggage from other travelers on the luggage belt. But little did I know they would be so much more effective in locating my luggage elsewhere. My connecting flight was delayed, and for some reason the airline left my luggage at the airport, while I went on to my destination in Hawaii, the luggage didn't follow. When I realized this, I alerted baggage claim and they had me fill out all the paperwork. The one question they had is whether my luggage looked different than other dark-colored mid-sized pieces. Yes it did, it had these luggage tags on it, and that's what the luggage claims administrator put as the distinguishing feature. By that night, they had found my luggage and flown it from California to Hawaii on the next flight. I was relieved to have had these attached to my bags. I would highly recommend these for your luggage as well." —TX Divemaster

Promising review: "Never fly without these! Before I found these, I endured excruciating pain in my ears upon descent and landing. Felt like a hot poker being driven into each ear. My ears would also be plugged up, and it would often take two to three days for them to resume their normal state of being. I insert them about an hour before landing, as the plane is making its slow descent. I'm comfortable, and the most discomfort I experience is a slight adjustment of pressure feeling in my sinus. NO PAIN. NO TEARS." —K. Tombrella

"I used this on a flight with my restless toddler and was extremely impressed. Not only does it do its job — attaching to the tray in front of you and holding your phone — but it's SO durable. Seriously. When my kid wasn't watching Encanto during the flight he was twisting and pulling on this thing to no end. I could not BELIEVE we didn't have to try to reattach it at any point during the flight. It's getting a 10/10 from me." —Heather

Promising review: "If you watch anything on your phone during a flight, you need one of these! I purchased for my husband and I for use on a recent flight, and they worked like magic. The design is lightweight and compact to pack, easy to 'hang' and adjust to keep your phone at eye-level to then sit back and relax. Definitely better than having to hold your phone in your lap or the tray table and get a kink in your neck looking down. Everyone sitting around us on the plane asked where we got them. Totally worth it and highly recommend." —Amy Fritzer

    24. A JetKids carry-on suitcase that'll make getting through the airport with your kiddo in tow a bit more bearable — they can ride on it until you get the gate (phew, a gift to your back) and then use it as a foot rest during the flight.

Plus, it has an adjustable strap so you can carry it over your shoulder, a top handle, and a mattress inside that can be removed and used while in the air. Parents have even used this product while waiting for their flight to keep kids comfy and content.

Promising review: "I dragged my feet on this purchase because of the price tag, but I have zero regrets after traveling solo with my 2-year-old and 5-year-old. This thing was so easy to maneuver through the airport and through the plane aisles that my 2-year-old pulled it herself for most of the trip. It was slightly too big for her to ride on, but my 4-year-old loved riding on it. The bed feature was super easy to set up and we used it to and from our destination. I was able to pack clothes for a five-day trip, the bed, a blanket and stuffie. I will definitely be dumping more money into this company for our next trip. Happy customer!" —Casie Wilds

    25. mini contact lens kit because even though you're taking a red-eye your eyes don't have to look the part. When it's time to take your contacts out and get some shut-eye you can do so at your seat instead of shuffling to the too-tiny plane bathroom.

It comes with a solution bottle, tweezers, stick connection, lens holder, and mirror.

Promising review: "Great product for the price!! Super cute!! Small and perfect for traveling, in your car, purse, or pocket!! According to the instructions, you should take them at take-off and then every two hours and then again once you arrive to help with relaxation and combat sleepiness.

Promising review: "My husband and I have used this product now for five years for a number of trips overseas, and these really work. How do we know? We've forgotten to use them on a couple of legs, and there has been a night/day difference in our energy levels. We use precisely as directed, setting timers on our phone when possible to remember the doses. On a few occasions, we've slept through the timer, so missed the timing of a couple of doses, and we've been fine. Our last trip to Australia was 34 hours door-to-door on the outbound. We would have been a complete wreck without these. As it was, we arrived late morning, remained awake and lively (enough) through dinner, and then got a good night's sleep. The next day, we felt as good as new. For the years before I used this, I would need to sleep for a few days after a leg like that. I was lucky enough to be sent these shoes right before their debut and I am *obsessed* to say the least. I threw them on immediately while prepping my home for my son's first birthday party (seen in the photo to the right) and ended up wearing them the entire day and the next day to a petting zoo. They are seriously comfortable and so lightweight it almost feels like you don't have shoes on. I adore that they can be thrown into the washing machine for a thorough cleaning (especially since I have them in white). They have a supportive, soft cushion that hugs the back of the ankle which is delightful. I got tons of compliments on them as well!

Get them from Allbirds for $115 (available in women's sizes 5–11 and four colors and men's sizes 8–14 and four colors).

It even comes with a straw, can hold both hot and cold liquids, and is dishwasher- and microwave-safe. Stojo is a small business aiming to eliminate single-use plastics with their portable and reusable products.

Promising review: "I take my lunch to work and during mid day I like to use the Keurig to brew a cup of coffee. The 12-ounce Stojo cup I purchased is very practical. It is thick and durable. The plastic collar enables you to hold the cup without squeezing it or burning your hands on the hot walls of the cup. It seals well so you don't have to worry about leaking your drink on your shirt. It even has some reasonable thermal properties. There is enough volume in the cup to allow for the 12-ounce brew plus ample creamer. It's not a stainless vacuum cup, but it does hold its temperature better than your typical gas station or coffee shop cup. Plus you have the advantage of being able to reheat your drink in the microwave which you can't do with a stainless cup. Washes easily too. If you want a 12-ounce cup that keeps your drink hot or cold for a long time, this isn't the cup for you. But if you need something practical that will keep your coffee warm for 30–45 minutes, can be reheated in a microwave, and collapses to the dimensions of a tall hockey puck, this is a good purchase. You'll have it for years." —ViciousCycle

Cadence is an AAPI woman-owned small business that was founded by Steph Hon as a way to eliminate single-use travel-sized plastics. The containers are made from recycled ocean-bound plastic.

My co-worker Abby Kass has these and loves them! Here's what she has to say about them: "I recently got a set of four of these, and, wow, I love them so much. I used them on a six-day trip recently, and they were perfect. I customized the label so I knew which one was my shampoo vs. conditioner and did a general label for any other things I wanted to bring along. They do hold a surprising amount. According to the brand, they hold approximately one to two weeks of skincare products, more than two weeks' worth of serum, two to three days' worth of haircare, and more than 15 tablets (for medicine and such). And while two to three days worth of haircare might not seem like enough, I found it held more than that for me, but I also don't wash my hair every single day. They were small enough to slip right into my toiletries bag and go through TSA with no problem. The container was easy to open in the shower (even with wet hands), and I had no leakage from them (like I did from my face wash bottle that will not be making the trip with me next time, SMH). These are an incredibly useful tool anyone who travels will want in their luggage."

    Those 25,000+ 5-star ratings don't lie!

Promising review: "I normally cannot wear flats because they give me terrible blisters on the back of my feet. These didn't! Bought these in nude for a city vacation with a lot of walking, but where sandals aren't necessarily worn and these were perfect! They obviously don't have the support of sneakers, but I am so happy to finally have a cheap pair of flats that don't give me blisters. I did break them in with thin socks on around my house before wearing them out and when possible, I wear them with little sock liners. Also — I was able to fold these in half like Tieks and fit them in a semi-small purse to change into to dance at a wedding! Score!" —Kate
