    A list of some of the toughest trail runs in the UK, are you up for the challenge?

    1. Lakeland 100

    The Lakeland 100 'Ultra Tour of the Lake District' is perhaps the most spectacular long distance trail race which takes place in the UK. The 100 mile circular route encompasses the whole of the lakeland fells, includes in the region of 6300m of ascent and consists almost entirely of public bridleways and footpaths.

    2. Petzl South Downs Way 100

    100 mile trail run from Winchester to Eastbourne on the South Downs Way. Total Climb: 12,700ft.

    3. Hardmoors 110 Ultra

    The Hardmoors 110 Ultamarathon follows the dramatic Cleveland Way National Trail encircling the North Yorkshire Moors and the Cleveland Heritage coastline. Starting from Helmsley, it finishes at Filey after 110 miles and 6,000 metres of cumulated elevation gain.

    4. The Montane Spine Race

    The Montane Spine Race is Britain's most brutal race. The longest, coldest and most demanding mountain marathon in Britain. 268 miles of ice, snow, cold and savage winds. Competitors have 7 days to complete the race.

    5. Ring O' Fire

    Ring O' Fire is an annual 135 mile coastal ultra marathon circumnavigating the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales.

    6. The Fellsman

    The Fellsman is a high level traverse covering more than 60 miles over very hard rugged moorland. The event climbs over 11,000 feet in its path from Ingleton to Threshfield in the Yorkshire Dales.

    7. West Highland Way Race

    The West Highland Way Race starts at Milngavie Railway Station (7 miles north of Glasgow) and finishes at the leisure centre in Fort William. The 95 mile race includes 14,760ft of ascent which competitors have 35 hours to complete.

    8. The Dragons Back

    The optimum route is approximately 300km with 17,000m of height gain across wild, trackless, remote and mountainous terrain.

    9. Bob Graham Round

    The Bob Graham Round is a 66 mile, 27,000 ft circuit of 42 of the highest peaks in the English Lake District.
