1. 13 Reasons Why, "If You're Breathing, You're a Liar" (Season 3, Episode 2)

Season 3 went pretty off the rails with the whole murder mystery thing, but Jessica running for student body president (and winning) is one of the highlights. Her telling off Monty gives me so much serotonin.

2. Riverdale, "Chapter Thirty: The Noose Tightens" (Season 2, Episode 17)

Although the "Team Varchie" shirts low-key make me want to gauge my eyes out, this truly is the teen drama election episode. Not only are students running for student body president, but Archie's dad and Hiram Lodge are facing off in the mayoral race as well. SO much political drama and teen angst!

3. One Tree Hill, “Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows” (Season 2, Episode 14)

The episode gets pretty petty, but Mouth coming in at the end to remind us (and their classmates) what an amazing president Brooke would be gets me every time. Brooke winning and telling Erica how she's trying to push out of her label of "rich girl" is a huge moment for her character, and it's so sweet to watch Brooke's reaction to the results.

4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, “Homecoming” (S3, Episode 5)

Okay, so this is an election for Homecoming Queen, but still! It's a great Buffy episode featuring Cordelia and Buffy fighting to get votes and, because this is Buffy, running from assassins who are playing a game to kill the two Slayers. Cordelia (who gets mistaken for Faith) is actually pretty badass in this episode!

5. Awkward, "The Campaign Fail" (Season 3, Episode 17)

Tamara decides to run against incumbent president (and her boyfriend) Jake, which...doesn't end very well. They fight a lot, but Tamara makes some valid points about how being a leader is about more than popularity.

6. Degrassi: The Next Generation, "Zombie" (Season 12, Episode 37)

Clare and Drew running against each other in the school election is comedy gold. It's obvious Drew is in way over his head, but Clare also takes this student council business so seriously that it's hard not to roll my eyes. Clare pushing Drew into the kiddie pool at his own campaign party is one of the funniest parts of the whole season.

7. Degrassi: The Next Generation, "Family Politics" (Season 1, Episode 3)

This is truly one of the most iconic Degrassi episodes ever. You've got the sibling rivalry between Ashley and Toby, J.T. running for president as a joke, Liberty taking everything super seriously, and of course, Paige Michalchuk being an icon as usual.

8. One Tree Hill, "How a Resurrection Really Feels" (Season 3, Episode 9)

The few episodes before this are also election themed — it's super fun to watch Karen run against Dan and watch Deb trying to sabotage Dan's campaign. But this episode is the most dramatic (with the reveal of who tried to kill Dan!!), and it's a strong reminder that sometimes the bad guy wins.

9. Glee, "Mash Off" (Season 3, Episode 6)

This episode is actually double election themed, featuring Sue and Burt running against each other for Congress! But the best part of this episode is Santana's "Someone Like You/Rumor Has It" mashup after Finn outs her — it's honestly one of my favorite covers in the show, and the scene is really powerful.

10. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, “Chapter Twelve: The Epiphany” (Season 2, Episode 1)

Yesss, feminism! Sabrina stands up for herself when she's told girls can't run for Top Boy, and absolute babe Nick supports her. Father Blackwood doesn't choose either of them, but it's fun to watch Sabrina stick it to the man.

11. Pretty Little Liars, “The First Secret” (Season 2, Episode 13)

Pretty Little Liars' first Halloween episode is super spooky, and it features an election subplot that demonstrates both how controlling Spencer's family is and how manipulative Alison is. This episode will get you psyched for voting AND Halloween!!

12. Gossip Girl, “The Grandfather: Part II” (Season 3, Episode 8)

This is the most political Gossip Girl ever gets, featuring Tripp's run for Congress. I don't care much about Nate's family drama, but I'm giving this episode bonus points for Serena pushing Blair's face into a cake at the victory party.

13. Degrassi: Next Class, "#BootyCall" (Season 1, Episode 1)

Honestly, this episode kind of pisses me off because Tristan is the goddamn worst and never should have been student body president. However, I felt the need to include it on this list because Miles' campaign slogan is simply too iconic to ignore.

14. Faking It, "Busted" (Season 2, Episode 10)

This mid-season finale is super dramatic (Karma has just found out about Amy and Liam), but the best part of this episode is Lauren. At first, you worry she's going to ruin Hester, but this episode actually feels like the first step toward her appreciating Hester in all its openness and quirkiness (leading to her great speech about it later in the season).

15. Pretty Little Liars, “Hush, Hush, Sweet Liars” (Season 6, Episode 12)

This mid-season finale, featuring Hannah fake-confessing to Charlotte's murder and waiting for A to come take her, is super dramatic. It's set against Veronica's run for senator, and honestly the extra "countdown" aspect the election adds works.

16. And finally, Gilmore Girls, "I Can't Get Started" (Season 2, Episode 22)

The WB

This episode may mostly be known for all the relationship drama that ensues at Sookie's wedding, but the Chilton election is pretty great too! Paris picking Rory as her running mate really marks a turning point in their friendship — they're no longer just frenemies, they're a team.
