"When there's a happy ending, it almost stresses me out more."

We asked members of the BuzzFeed Community to tell us the most satisfying movie endings of all time. Here are the movies that won our readers' hearts:

    Warning: Spoilers ahead!

    1. When we find out Mia and Sebastian don't end up together at the end of La La Land after a lengthy dream sequence:

    Summit Entertainment

"When there's a 'happy ending,' it almost stresses me out more and makes me ask, 'Why can't I have that? Why does everyone seem to be happy but me?' The hyper-realistic ending, one the audience can actually relate to, provides great comfort for me. Anyone else?"

    4. When Guy buys Girl a piano at the end of Once, even though they go their separate ways:

A man and woman walking down a Dublin street
Fox Searchlight / Courtesy Everett Collection

"It's a still, quiet ending. Everything is communicated with a few strums of the guitar and slow cuts between shots. It's so heavy and emotional that it's difficult to imagine the need for any dialogue at the end. It's just right as-is."

    5. When Christine leaves her mom a voicemail at the end of Lady Bird and describes how she felt the first time she drove around Sacramento:

Thanos wins and destroys half the world

    7. When Karen decides to rewrite the ending to her novel and spare Harold's life at the end of Stranger Than Fiction:

A man in a full-body cast and a woman signing his arm cast

    13. When literally everyone has their moment at the end of Lord of the Rings:

Aragorn being crowned king, then Frodo leaving
    New Line Cinema

"Moan about it all you want, but Lord of the Rings ends perfectly. People always say it has too many endings, but they just aren't used to seeing so many plots wrap up in such a fulfilling way. Aragorn is crowned king and is betrothed to Arwen. The Hobbits are recognized, not only for their sacrifice, but for their value and impact on the entirety of Middle Earth.
