Carey Mulligan – Cassie

If you've seen any of Carey's other performances, you're probably not surprised at how captivating she is as woman-on-a-mission, Cassie. Some of Carey's most famous roles are Kitty in Pride and Prejudice, Daisy in The Great Gatsby, and Jenny in An Education, for which she won a BAFTA for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Bo Burnham – Ryan

You might recognise Bo from a few different places – he's been in episodes of Key and Peele and Parks and Recreation, and he played Tobey in Rough Night. Bo started out doing musical comedy on YouTube before doing a number of stand-up specials with Comedy Central, and most recently he directed Chris Rock: Tambourine.

Laverne Cox gave us some levity as Cassie's friend-slash-boss, and she's a woman of many talents – her documentary Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word won a GLAAD media award in 2014, but you probably know her best as the iconic Sophia Burset in Orange is the New Black.

Clancy Brown – Stanley

With a career spanning almost 40 years, to say Clancy's a familiar face would be putting it lightly. His first role was in Bad Boys, and he was Captain Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption. Oh, and he's also a familiar voice – he's the man behind Lex Luthor in the DCAU and Mr Krabs in Spongebob Squarepants!

I don't know about you, but it took me a minute to recognise Jennifer Coolidge without her signature blonde hair – although she was a natural at playing Cassie's exasperated mum! Jennifer's a comedy legend, and has appeared in Best in Show, Click, Legally Blonde, A Cinderella Story, and is famously known for being Stifler's Mom in American Pie.

Though she's been in a number of films, you'll most likely know Alison from TV, especially if you're a comedy fan. She was Diane in Bojack Horseman, Ruth in GLOW, the very meme-able Annie in Community, and her longest-running role was in Mad Men, where she played Trudy Campbell.

Promising Young Woman is Emerald's feature directorial debut after taking over as head writer for the second season of Killing Eve, and it's a pretty impressive debut at that!
