This Singer Made A Song About White Privilege And People Think It's Shade Towards Kim Kardashian

Facts or shade?

This is K. Michelle, guys. She's a singer, songwriter, and musician, and one of few cast members from the Love & Hip-Hop franchise who actually puts out music.

In anticipation of her new album, Kimberly: The People I Used to Know, which drops Dec. 8, K. Michelle released a single called "Kim K."

The record has been getting lots of attention, as the open-book celeb addresses everything from the public scrutiny of her ex-relationship with Idris Elba ...

...to cultural appropriation and the Kardashians.

"Wish I could be a Kardashian, so I could be black. Put my face over Pac, wear my braids to the back," K sings in the second chorus.

Naturally, the internet had feels about it. Some people called "SHADE!"...

...while others were more like "FAAACTS!"

To put people's speculations to rest, K. Michelle took to her Twitter to set things straight. She tweeted that she actually thinks Kim Kardashian is "fly," but that the "statement behind the song is black Women are rarely given credit for our cultural trends and flyness."

She went on to say, "Truths can be spoken without a shade tree behind them." The artist even admitted that she's made changes to her image, which she later regretted, based on societal beauty standards placed on black women.

The Memphis native also mentioned how the very looks and body types that black women are ostracized for are the same looks that non-black women are celebrated for, recalling a time when her white vocal coach told her not to wear braids to her talent shows because they weren't polished and she wouldn't win.

Here's the full song so you can decide for yourself.
