Whether you want to tutor children at underresourced schools or get involved in a mentorship program at a local youth center, there are plenty of ways to make a difference in the lives of kids in your community! You might also consider donating school supplies and other essentials for children in need at a local homeless shelter.

Volunteer with local youth.

Most animal shelters and rescues across the country rely heavily on the support of volunteers to give their four-legged residents the care and attention they need. Consider volunteering to socialize animals, walking dogs so they can get a break from their kennels, or fostering a pet if you have the capacity!

Volunteer at a local animal shelter or rescue.

Volunteer with a local garden or parks department to help beautify and maintain your community's outdoor spaces. Whether it's by planting flowers, removing weeds and invasive species, or cleaning up a local park, there are plenty of ways to get involved, even if you don't have a green thumb!

Help care for community green spaces.

Many senior-living facilities would love a little extra help with everything from serving food to organizing dances and game nights, to assisting with clerical work. Visit with local elders to make their days a little brighter, or consider helping to deliver meals to seniors in need.

Volunteer at a senior center or nursing home.

Compile all the stuff you don't need or use anymore — and ask your neighbors to contribute too! — for a charity sale. Pick a cause that means a lot to you or your community, and advertise it around the neighborhood and on social media. Consider making it a regular event!

Organize a yard sale for a charity that means a lot to you.

Donating your time to, say, a local museum or library is a great way to learn more about the arts and your community's history, as well as to share your skills with a place that could use the extra help. Whether it's by doing research, leading tours, or helping with programming, there are plenty of ways to get involved with an organization that really interests you.
