Kristen Bell Revealed Why She Celebrates Dax Shepard's "Sober Birthday" And It's Lovely
"I'm extraordinarily happy that he has stayed sober, because that's what allows me to have him in my life as a husband and as a father."
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are one of the most honest celebrity couples around.

Whether they're discussing conversations about sex with their kids, or revealing that they require a lot of therapy to "coexist", there's very little this pair won't talk about.
And one topic they've never shied away from discussing is Dax's past drug and alcohol addiction, as well as his sobriety.
In fact, in September last year Kristen shared a long and emotional tribute to Dax on the 14th anniversary of his sobriety, revealing that she's "in awe of his dedication".
Well, Kristen has now revealed just how grateful she is to Dax for remaining sober, adding that she understands the level of "mental control and evolution" it requires.

Speaking to People magazine, Kristen said: "I know how much effort has to be put into staying sober. I don't mean that to be like, I come home and see him shaking and looking at a whiskey ad or something, but there are different elements you have to deal with when you're staying sober. It's a ton of mental control and evolution."
Kristen went on to say that she marks the anniversary of his sobriety every year in a ritual they've named his "sober birthday". In fact, it turns out that Kristen makes a bigger deal of his sober birthday than his actual day of birth.

Dax said that Kristen "spoils the hell" out of him on his sober birthday: "The nicest presents she's gotten me are always on my sober birthday. In fact, my real birthday ā I still haven't gotten a present!"
And Kristen went on to explain why she chooses to celebrate his sobriety more than his birthday, saying: "I'm very happy he was born, so I celebrate his birthday, but I'm extraordinarily happy that he has stayed sober, because that's what allows me to have him in my life as a husband and as a father."
And Dax revealed that the best present he's received on his sober birthday was an original copy of The Adventurers by Harold Robbins ā he was named after the protagonist ā which contained notes from loved ones inside.

"That was incredible," Dax said.
