This might be the best news we’ve heard all year. George Clooney is set to star in a Downton Abbey in a special charity sketch this Christmas.

The Sun revealed that the ACTUAL GEORGE CLOONEY has already shot his scenes for the sketch, which will air during ITV's Text Santa fundraiser.

It's confirmed that he'll play an American attending a wedding at the estate, but a spokesperson for the show declined to reveal any further details.

A source told The Sun: "This is the biggest moment in Downton history and shows it's now the biggest drama in the world. All the plans have been shrouded in secrecy because George was determined for his role not to leak out."

Clooney apparently accepted the role after becoming friendly with Downton star Hugh Bonneville.

The pair met on the set of The Monuments Men last year, when Clooney apparently told Bonneville how much of a fan of Downton he was and joked about appearing in the drama. Next thing we know, it's actually happening.

The previous version of this headline said George Clooney would be appearing in an episode of Downton Abbey. He is actually appearing in a Downton Abbey sketch for the ITV'S Text Santa fundraiser this Christmas.
