46 Small Tips To Make Your Home Office Look So Much Better

Even for the folks whose "home office" is a certain couch cushion.

    1. Tuck stray cords outta the way with cable clip organizers because there's no need to see OR trip over the your phone charger cord every time you stand up to fill up your glass of water.

    2. While we're on the subject of cords, mask your power strip in a sleek (but ventilated!) box because of course your home office is in the room that only has one outlet. This'll also help deter pets and kids from messing with the cords. Or at least a bit.

    3. Soften up a hard office chair with a faux-sheepskin rug that'll also hide all sorts of coffee stains. You and I both know it's a random chair no one else uses anyway and *that's* why it's your office chair. (No shame in that.)

    4. Put the dining chair back where it rightfully belongs and get an ergonomic mesh office chair. It has a curved backrest to support the natural curve of your spine, which that v cute dining chair doesn't.

    5. Or seriously zhuzh up an existing chair with a memory foam chair cushion with a nonslip rubber bottom. It'll keep you comfy all day long while staying put.

    6. And strap on some memory foam armrest pads because your elbows also deserve some cushy comfort while you plug away at that presentation. Or scroll through some BF Shopping stories ;).

    7. Tidy up a modem-y mess by hiding it behind a bookish disguise as a decorative touch that's more useful than anyone could expect. It's super strategic of you to work closely to the Internet access but it isn't quite fitting your aesthetics.

    8. Liven things up a bit with a colorful keyboard cover that'll *also* serve as some insurance for some in-the-middle-of-writing-an-email coffee spills.

    9. Or if you're more of a minimalist, keep a jar of cleaning goo handy that'll help get down in between keyboard keys and erase the woes of that grilled cheese you ate for lunch.

    10. Bring some ambient lighting to your monitor with a USB-powered LED light strip you attach to the back.

    11. Find a spot for all your cords thanks to a wall charger with six outlets *and* two USB fast-charging ports. No more dashing offscreen in a team meeting to find a charger.

    12. Get around oddly place outlets behind furniture with an ultra thin electrical cover. This babe cover is connected to a power strip that lets you charge six devices at a time.

    13. Invest in a Wi-Fi extender, which'll especially come in handy if your office space is far, FAR away from your router. This'll help strengthen your Wi-Fi in all areas of your home.

    14. Make your old dogs feel like they're on vacation (sorta, at least) by positioning a velvet memory foam footrest at your work station.

    15. Stick a soundproofing strip along your door's edges (trust me, it's very easy) to help block out your roommate's work calls while you're just trying to get through your own.

    16. Or consider a white noise machine to help drown out any distracting noise with a constant pfshhhhhh or nature sound that'll help you zone in on the task at hand.

    17. Buy yourself (literally) some extra book storage space with these floating bookshelves as straight-up compliment bait. Chatting about that bestseller within your Zoom meeting view just may make for the least awkward small talk while you wait for everyone to join the meeting.

    18. Zhuzh up that (essential box of tissues) with a minimalist tissue box cover that'll bring some whimsy to your WFH setup. I have this and just love it!

    19. Create a sense of space (or mask water stains on a hand-me-down desk) with a reversible waterproof desk mat to turn most any table into your WFH space. Plus it just looks so nice!

    20. Put down a cozy area rug with a low pile that'll still let your office chair scoot around as needed. Having a nice home office setting will help spike that cup of ambition on your commute from the kitchen to the (home) office.

    21. Invest in a glass dry-erase desktop whiteboard for the really important notes. *Oh* and it contains a drawer to help with tidying.

    22. Invest in a faux houseplant you can just admire without having to worry about actually taking care of it. Let's concentrate on your water intake.

    23. Swap out that random souvenir sports game cup for an insulated water bottle or a motivational water bottle so you can stay hydrated while looking a little more put together when you've gotta take a sip on a video meeting.

    24. Free up your desktop space for other activities outside of work hours with a custom laptop holder you can attach to the bottom of your desk.

    25. Stick on a hidden drawer to buy yourself some extra space within reach for the stuff you only need to have on hand sometimes.

    26. Or stick some triangle storage units onto the bottom of your bottom of your monitor so you're never left searching for a pen when you need one.

    27. Create a spot for reminders with a cute desk calendar that'll help you remember which day is which... "It's a day that ends in -y, so I'm wearing sweatpants."

    28. Make the best lists of your LIFE with some personalized list notepads that'll be even more motivation to work through your to-do list.

    29. Park your trusty headphones on a desktop stand while not in use. No hunting for them later!

    30. Or clamp on an under-desk hook so your headphone storage won't take up any desk space.

    31. Stick a motivational sticker (with some actual decent advice) on your laptop or somewhere you can constantly see it as a colorful reminder.

    32. Free up some space with a printer stand that'll fit underneath your desk...or just about anywhere that isn't taking up space on your desk.

    33. Invest in a selfie ring light to make sure you have the optimal amount of light for all those meetings that are now video meetings.

    34. Park stuff you want within reach on an adjustable wood shelf for a lovely, but useful, display.

    35. If you're working with a bookshelf, file away papers in an expanding file folder that'll hold up to 200 pieces of paper.

    36. If you're shelf-less, mount a hanging set of rainbow folders so you can quickly grab items as you need them. Plus it'll make for a cheery pop of color!

    37. Or if you can spare a little bit of floor space, get a rolling cart – it can hold all sorts of odds and ends, even the ones you use once in a blue moon.

    38. Post a privacy sign at the "entrance" to your home office...even if it's in the middle of your living space. Perhaps this will prevent some roommates from barging into your video call or kids coming to you with requests that can def wait a few minutes.

A small circular dial sign you can turn to say "do not disturb," "out of office," or "welcome please knock"

    39. Try out a sunlamp if you're in a windowless room or even a room with windows that seem to get all of three minutes of natural light a day. It'll help you better stick to your schedule and feel a better sense of normalcy.

    40. Prop up bigger pieces of paper with a standalone clipboard that'll either prop up on your desk or hang on the wall.

    41. Invest in a *good*-looking desk you can park in your living room or another nonoffice or high-traffic area without mussing up your home's aesthetic. Plus it won't take up that much space.

    42. Or squeeze in a compact standing desk to keep you on your toes in more ways than one. WFH means moving around a lot less so you may appreciate a standing desk at home even more than in an office!

    43. Transform basically any flat surface in your home into a standing desk with a foldable laptop stand.

    44. Move around as you please (or get around not having room for a regular desk) with an adjustable rolling desk. It adjusts up and down so you can move it from seat to seat in your home.

    45. And if you still don't have a proper desk (relatable!) and are lacking the floor space (also relatable!) a wall-mounted desk with a fold-down desk large enough for a laptop will give you a designated spot without hogging too much space.

    46. *Safely* vent with an F-bomb paperweight that'll hold stuff down while you want to go on an NSFW rant.
