52 Things For Anyone Whose Vibe Is "Prepared In The Strangest Way Possible"

When you drop stuff behind the couch...there's a product for that. No, but really.

    1. Glass phone screen protectors that even YOU can DIY (I did!) and will protect your precious device every single day. So when you inevitably drop your phone in a situation that feels like something out of Final Destination but you thankfully made it out of alive, the screen protector will crack — not your actual screen.

shattered phone screen protector instead of a shattered phone screen

Each of the protectors that come in a pack have lasted me about six months! Check out my full review of amFilm Glass Screen Protectors (#2).

Promising review: "I never post reviews, but this is a unique circumstance. I bought these screen protectors because they were cheap and came in a pack — probably not the best approach when trying to protect an $800 device. But, at the end of the day, these did exactly what they were supposed to do when a 15 lbs. dumbbell slipped out of my wife's hand and fell directly onto the screen. After telling my wife there was no way her screen didn't crack, I pulled back the cover to reveal a crack-free, fully intact screen. And that's why you buy screen protectors in packs!" —Geoffrey Forman

    2. double-dipping clip to keep your fast food sauces upright instead of tipping over onto your car seats in a sad, sad mess.

holder with two dips in it attached to a car vent
    3DPrintedByBrian / Etsy

Promising review: "Bought this for my brother for Christmas, it was a hit! He's often on the road traveling and has shared funny stories of how he gets sauce on his fast food while in the car. He loved it, works great, thank you! :)" —Amanda Nill

Get it from 3DPrintedByBrian on Etsy for $5+ (available in single or double).

    3. A tactical writing pen with a point that'll break glass or serve as a weapon against an attacker if you need it. This takes the pen being a sword to a whole other level. Hopefully you'll use it for writing considerably more often than breaking glass.

    the pen and parts

    Amazon

Made from aircraft grade aluminum for superior strength and portability. Includes six ink refills.

Promising review: "I use it every shift at work as a firefighter/medic. It clips on the inside of my turnout pants and stays put. It's solid and has withstood training, EMS calls, and structure fires for six months now. Any other pen would break in my pocket. I write patient info with it on EMS calls. I've broken out vehicle windows with it with ease. It works better than a window punch and is easier to deploy because of the clip. Others were impressed with its quick deployment and it looks like I'm breaking windows with just my gloved hand. The ink recently started to fade and I replaced the cartridge with no problems." —Qpounderwidchz

Get it from Amazon for $14.99.

    4. An estate planning journal can help you get organized and write down everything to help prep for the very sad...but inevitable. It isn't a will but it'll be a good step before working on your will.

This is not a legal will but it is designed to help you get organized so you can make one and it helps to spell out everything that your loved ones might wonder in the event of your...well, you know.

Promising review: "Don’t let the title throw you (you can order the same material with a 'softer' title if you want, but why?), this book allows you to enter the information that your loved ones will need when you’re gone...and save them so much trouble at a time when they have enough grief to deal with. As an estate planning attorney, I recommend these books to ALL my clients. And remind them to keep the info up to date...to save the ones you love time, anguish, and money." —PJ

Get it from Amazon for $13.49.

    5. A handy dandy bandana that just so happens to be printed with survival info on it. If your idea of adventure includes hiking and camping, this is worth a buy.

person using bandana as a head covering, arm sling
    Amazon

Promising review: "I just got certified as a Wilderness Medic in a three-day workshop where we were tasked with several critical medical scenarios, and had to be caretakers and fabricate several ad hoc splints and address multiple/complex life threatening patient scenarios...and this was THE recommended survival bandanna by the SOLO course instructor. Course aside, I've bought several of these 'Survival Bandanas,' and this is by far the best one I've found. Because it's 60 inches wide, not only can it serve as a cravat sling and splint binding, but what makes it really cool is all the awesome rope knots, emergency shelter type diagrams, water, signaling, and much more! Very nice. Really great for scouts and outdoor clubs, as well as professional rangers and outdoor medics!" —Thomas Weeks

Get it from Amazon for $11.50.

    6. A water filtration straw that'll lighten your water load on remote camping or hiking trips. OR just be the best thing in your prepper arsenal.

person drinking out of dirty looking stream through the lifestraw
    Amazon

Filters up to 1,000 liters of contaminated water without iodine, chlorine, or other chemicals. Does not require batteries and has no moving parts. Removes minimum 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria, 99.9% of waterborne protozoan parasites, and filters to 0.2 microns; surpasses EPA filter standards.

Promising review: "I frequently hike and camp in the backcountry all over the United States. Carrying the amount of water that I need to survive during these trips is just not feasible due to the weight. I recently took a LifeStraw out for a test on a backcountry hike in the Rocky Mountains. Every stream, lake, or other water source that I came across, I stopped for a drink. I was drinking fresh snow melt and also from lakes that are home to beavers and other wildlife. There was no added taste to the water and I didn't get sick during or after the trip. The one drawback to the LifeStraw is that it does take a bit of suction to start and keep the water flowing. When you're at high altitudes in the mountains this leads to longer 'drink breaks' because you can get winded pretty easy while trying to suck up water through the LifeStraw. However, its size and weight advantages when hiking mountainous terrain vastly outweigh this minor drawback." —Charlie

Get it from Amazon for $17.97.

    7. Plus a super light bidet attachment that attached to a water bottle that you can use when backpacking...or for roadside emergencies.

attachment on three different kinds of bottles
    Blue Thread Gear / Etsy

Blue Thread Gear is a Camas, Washington-based shop that sells a variety of items.

Promising review: "Awesome product. I am hiking the Pacific Crest Trail this year and this backcountry bidet is the best one out there. Why? Others drip water when the water bottle is turned upside down. This one doesn’t and it creates a strong and light spray of water. Doesn’t get everything wet with the others out there — get this one! He makes one that works with CNOC 1 L collapsible bottles too." —Michael Zanoni

Get it from Blue Thread Gear on Etsy for $8+ (available in two styles and several colors).

    8. A stick of anti-chafing balm that'll keep your inner thighs and other parts ouchless when it's time to get physical, physical. No more walking like a cowboy showing up at a saloon to see your enemy just so your painful, chafed thighs won't touch.

I own this and yes, can vouch that it's QUITE effective for inner-thigh chafing (the bane of my existence). I also recently rubbed it on the places where dress sandals hit my feet and dance the night away at a wedding reception with no pain or rubbing.

Promising review: "Omg this stuff is the best! I am a chubby girl and I recently went to Thailand where it was 90 degrees Fahrenheit with a 70% humidity every single day I was there. This stuff got me through! I was able to wear dresses and shorts with no chafing! And I only ever had to apply in the morning and once in the middle of the day! My life is forever changed I’ve already ordered two more!" —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $9.99 (available in three sizes; also available in a cream, "for her," and for your feet.)

    9. A storage garter as an inconspicuous way to wear a dress without pockets but still hold onto all your essentials.

    garter with pockets

    Amazon

Girly-Go-Garter is a small business created by Andy Paige, a celebrity style expert who was inspired to create a storage solution after taping TV shows while wearing a mic pack attached to the back of her bra or around her waist.

Promising review: "This thing is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I have tried a bunch of different brands of this type of product, which is absolutely ingenious and every person who has to wear a dress with no pockets should have one. But this one is by far the best of anything I've tried. First of all it's adjustable, which is for some reason not the norm but it's super helpful, and it STAYS. This thing don't budge at all, you can wear this to an event and dance the night away and all your stuff stays right where you put it. Gifting one of these to everyone I know." —JJ

Get it from Amazon for $39 (available in eight colors).

    10. A pack of toilet seat covers to create a (colorful) barrier between your toddler's curious hands and public toilet seats at rest stops. Or yeah they're for your "kids" but really they're for you.

Promising review: "If you're a germaphobe like myself, this is a must-have in your diaper bag. The thought of placing my son or daughter on a public toilet with only a seat liner is disturbing especially since they're both little and still hold onto the toilet seat for support when peeing/pooping. These cover the toilet completely and even cover the lower part of the toilet where dangling legs and pants/skirts touch. My only complaint about these is that they are not flushable. It's difficult trying to gather the liner up (they are rather large) without touching the toilet or the possibly wet liner (because it partially fell in the water) and then scrunching it up to fit into a sanitary napkin bin. Other than that, these are great. Also, I don't use the adhesive strips at all since I have two little ones that usually need to go right away so we don't have the time to remove the adhesive backing. I usually just place the liner on the toilet and then carefully plop my kid on top and all's well." —Ting

Get a pack of 24 covers from Amazon for $9.99.

    11. A cozy window hammock for your cat as their very own perch to keep tabs on all the important things the birds are doing outside instead of crawling all over you while you're sitting on the couch catching up on your stories.

Cat in hammock that is suction cupped to the window

    12. And a bubble fence window to head off your dog freaking out about all the noise that's going on at your neighbor's. Well, once they get a peek they might still bark their little head off but maybe JUST MAYBE they won't. IDK. I don't know your dog.

Promising review: "After replacing a chain link with a wood fence the dog barked a lot. She just couldn't see anymore. After installing this window she barks wayyyyyyy less. Awesome!" —Bubba D

Get it from Amazon for $29.98.

    13. A bottle of Grip Clean heavy-duty soap made with coconut and olive oils so you can get your grease-covered paws back to their clean selves. Sure, you're just cleaning up your bike real quick before you have to go out for brunch. And then you're covered in grease.

Promising review: "I work for the railroad and I am always getting my hands dirty! I could never seem to find anything that worked. Also, I live in Utah so when it starts getting cold my hands dry out. Well, with Grip Clean that doesn’t happen! I have my coworkers coming to my locker asking to get some soap since the soap we have at doesn't work as well as Grip Clean!" —Nick

    14. A portable door lock that'll serve as an extra level of security in whatever hotels or rentals you may stay in — it's super easy to install and take off.

    lock on door
how to guide for door lock

Promising review: "My apartment door has a deadbolt but no lock on the door handle. The latch is also misplaced so if it’s not dead bolted anyone can just push my door open. Took a few tries to get this right but makes me feel much more secure and it’s easy to use when you get the hang of it! I also take this with me when traveling as it fits almost all doors. Definitely recommend, thanks,TikTok, for showing this to me." —Anna

Get it from Amazon for $14.99.

    15. An air mattress that'll fit in your car backseat for camping, emergencies, whatever?!

Some reviews, like this one, report using the air mattress for transporting dogs.

Promising review: "Bought this air mattress for our trip to Madras, Oregon (SolarTown Campground) to view the solar eclipse. The spot we reserved was for parking only, requiring us to sleep in our car. This air mattress made sleeping in the back seat much more comfortable. I have a 2017 Honda Civic sedan, and as you can see from the pictures it seemed like the air mattress was designed for it. My fiance and I have a combined weight of around 260 lbs. By morning time, we noticed the mattress lost a tad bit of air (to be expected) but not too much to where it hindered our sleep. I should add, we inflated the mattress the previous morning before making the trip. We ended up not using the part that covers the center console, since the console was level with the top of the mattress in our car." —Kevin Henrichsen

Get it from Amazon for $34.99.

    16. handbag organizer with LOTS of pockets that'll help you easily track down your headphones, caffeinated gum, sleep mask, and just about anything else you'll need while traveling or just going about your everyday routine.

A customer review photo showing them pulling out the insert from their handbag

Promising review: "I have always purchased handbags with lots of pockets and sections because I hate having to dig around trying to find something in the gaping hole of purses with no sections. But I have passed up so many cute bags because of this, and I was frustrated with having to do so. I purchased this medium size organizer, and I couldn't be happier!! It is very well-made, and it has so many great pockets to organize everything I need. THE BEST PART is, I can easily lift it out of one purse and put it into another one, and I always know where everything can be found. I wish I had gotten one of these years ago. When I first ordered this organizer, I didn't realize it had two zipper compartments on each side, and I was tickled to discover even MORE storage!!! With all the fun colors and patterns, it was hard to select one, but I've always been partial to polka dots. I love it and can't imagine anyone not being has pleased with this as I am!" —Ronna

Promising review: "I bought these for a trip for my family of five. I like to plan in advance to make sure no one forgets anything! These were a life saver packing for three kids! I was able to create a carry-on, toiletries, wires/chargers, and snacks pouch for everyone! I used clear sticker paper to create name labels, and it all worked perfectly! Would definitely recommend if you need to travel with family and need to set things out and pack." —mommyandbri

I'm quite adept at painting my own nails (the only time I get a professional manicure is when I want gel before going on vacation), but these press-on nails have me feeling super lazy about painting my nails because they're so easy to use! And that's OK! Each set costs you less than 10 bucks and rather than fool with a bottle of nail glue that ends up anywhere but the nails, each nail has a peel-off plastic that reveals a super sticky surface you press onto your real nail. I find that all the nails stay on about three days when I do stuff like hand-wash my dishes, pet glorious dogs, and scratch many layers of dry shampoo on my scalp. You'll get 30 nails with each set, which helps you find the right sizes BUT I've also found comes in handy when a pointer or middle finger nail pops off (those are the first to go in my experience) so I end up getting about a week's use of wear out of each nail set. Multiple friends have seen me with the nails on and all have believed they're the real deal!

And, we are supposed to change or update passwords from time to time, so this is a great tool to help us do that. It certainly makes more sense than scribbling on a random piece of paper on your desk and then misplacing it. The trick, however, is to not misplace the book! I HIGHLY recommend this!!" —Carole P

    Amazon

Promising review: "I bought this nifty gadget about six months ago for a multi-leg, ultra-long-haul trip and it more than held up the entire duration. I was able to finagle it to fit the tray tables on different planes and like others, I find the height just nice when clamped onto a stowed tray table. It also works on my roller carry-on handle during layovers. However, I find myself using it a lot outside of travel, too! With work, I've clamped it onto my office desk shelving to hold my phone at eye level beside my computer. At home, I simply clamped it to a deck of cards and it turns into a versatile stand that I can place on any flat surface. Heck, I've been using it to hold my phone comfortably at eye level while watching videos in bed. It's extremely well-built and I find myself fidgeting with it all the time. Thus far it still feels solid and I don't anticipate breaking it any time soon. Even if it does break, I'll be happy to buy another one or two of it!" —Earendil

Promising review: "I love this thing. So invaluable when looking for lost goods, or hidden screws and pins in the carpet. And the price is so reasonable. I’m super happy. Just be gentle with it. Sometimes you’ll want to pull it out like a light saber and start hitting things or maybe want to aggressively point at a chart like some WW2 general. If you are too crazy with it, it will break into pieces and be useless. It’s not fragile, but it’s also not meant to be used as a ninja sword. Just be smart. You’ll love it." —Seanerdooski

    36. Some no-tie elastic shoelaces you can add to your go-to sneakers (but will look like normal shoelaces) so you can be ready to slip on your shoes and go go go for whatever reason. Emergency? Yes. Slept through your four alarms? Double yes.

Promising review: "At first I was skeptical that these laces wouldn't hold my shoes on tightly enough, but I decided to give them a try in my Converse Chucks. They're fantastic! I like the way the 'hidden' fasteners sit inside the shoes below the eyelets, but on top of the tongue, and I can't feel the fastener at all with my foot in the shoe. I've had them in for around eight months, and they're still just as elastic as ever. They haven't stretched at all and show no signs of wearing out. I loved them so much that I bought five more sets to put in all of my shoes! No more triple knotting my shoes so they don't become untied. I tie knots pretty slowly so these laces have honestly saved me tons of time. I couldn't be happier with them." —lucidity

Promising review: "I am very fair-skinned and bruise easily (doesn't help that I also tend to be very clumsy). I recently got a very large, dark bruise on my arm, and a friend at work whose son is a stunt man told me I should use Arnica on it. Based on the reviews, I ordered this product and started using it approximately four days after I was bruised. At first, it didn't seem like anything was happening, but after three to four days of use, I could see a marked difference just from morning to evening.
