Maybe you're born with them, maybe it's these mascaras.
Promising review: "My absolute favorite mascara. This mascara does not clump or give me spider eyes. I have tried many mascaras with steep $30+ price tags and always end up coming back to this beauty. It is really wonderful and you can't beat the price. My only qualm is that it dries out within a month or two and you have to purchase again." —JP

Promising review: "This is the only mascara I’ve been using for five years and I will never switch to anything else! It makes my lashes look amazing as I already have long lashes naturally, I don’t need to ever wear falsies." —Maleahxo
Get it from Sephora for $24 (also available in a waterproof formula). Cruelty-free and PETA-certified (but owned by Estée Lauder).
Promising review: "I will never switch!!! This is by far the best mascara I’ve purchased in a long time. I used to only purchase high-end mascaras, sometimes drugstore mascaras. This is great for glam makeup, everyday makeup, and no makeup days. You will not be disappointed. I have four backups!! It’s mainly for length and extremely black. You just need one coat to see the amazing results." —KalahJ
Get it from Amazon for $12 (also available in a waterproof mascara). Cruelty-free.
Promising review: "This mascara is my favorite/holy grail!!! I use every day and I love the effects it has on my lashes! It lengthens, curls, and darkens them! Love this mascara and I recommend it!" —chloeneff35
Get it from Sephora for $29.50 (available in three colors).
Promising review: "Ok, so at first I was a little skeptical about whether or not I would like this mascara. The type of brush it has is not usually one that I prefer however when I followed the instructions on the box and got really close to my lash line and wiggled the brush a little bit I was extremely impressed with the results!!! This stuff really does what it says it can do! My eyelashes were amazing after two or three coats. It looked like I was wearing false eyelashes!! My only complaint (which doesn’t take a star away at all) would be that it does take a little bit longer to dry than some mascaras but it also doesn’t clump up either so I’d say it’s a fair trade!! Bottom line, this stuff is amazing!!" —melmel729

Promising review: "I used to spend $40+ on mascara from Sephora, Ulta...I couldn't keep justifying that to myself. So I googled what the best drugstore mascara was and this beauty was buried somewhere deep in the fifth article I read. It is the best thing I've ever learned about on Google. ☺️ My lashes stay beautiful all day. I get SOOOOO many compliments — coworkers, strangers, family, friends. They're all extremely jealous of my 'lashes.' I put it on the ends first. Let it dry. Then go back and add more length to the ends and the bottom. Finally, I go back and forth between each eye and add volume to the base of my lashes with the thick part of the brush. (Picture is one eye with and one without the mascara applied.)" —Sarah Whittaker

Promising review: "This has to be one of my absolute favorite mascaras. I’m a budget-makeup consumer and this fits perfectly on my shopping list. I have thin eyelashes and this mascara really pumps up the volume! It makes my eyelashes look two to three times as thick! I get so many compliments from my patients." —Megan

Promising review: "I like most, if not all, of you have spent sooo long trying to find a mascara that did it all — lengthened, boosted, thickened, didn't smudge, etc. I had a full-face makeover done one day in-store and the artist who did the makeover used this mascara on me and I fell in love. It is the ONLY mascara I have ever used that stayed put all day, no matter what I was doing. I have an all-out sweat sesh at the gym and this stuff doesn't smudge OR run. I am so happy with this mascara that I don't think I would ever use anything else —unless they discontinue this, which I hope they never do! Do yourself a favor and treat your lashes to this wonderful masterpiece of makeup!" —Chelle127
Get it from Sephora for $29. Cruelty-free and PETA-certified (but owned by Unilever).
Promising review: "Great mascara! I have fairly short lashes, and two swipes of this made them significantly longer and more noticeable. You will still need to curl your lashes. However, I was really pleased with the staying power of this mascara. Never smudged, never flaked." —jingjinglei

Promising review: "This mascara is on point! After reading the reviews, I decided to give it a try! Cute labeling too. I love the comb — I feel like that's what gives the eyelashes volume! No raccoon eyes! I feel so pretty! I didn't even curl them in that pic so I can't wait to see how they look when they are curled as well. Def sticking to this." —Lilfunyan
Get it from Amazon for $13.50+ (available as a pack of three minis and a full-size tube). Cruelty-free and PETA-certified.
Promising review: "Buy this. Seriously. I suffer from very sad eyelashes. Stick straight out, even with an eyelash curler they won’t curl up, something about my eyelid shape pushes them down. I never bothered with mascara and would just put falsies on, but I saw someone with similar eyes to me try this on Instagram. This shit really works!! I can’t stop staring at the mirror in confusion because I have NEVER been able to see my lashes straight on before! It did come out a bit clumpy, but like I said I don’t really use mascara and I’m pretty sure that’s just bad application by me. My lashes are full, BLACK, and so fckng LIFTED girl." —brocli

Promising review: "I have thin Asian lashes and I crave volume. This mascara did not disappoint. I am on my third or fourth tube. If I layer it, I get asked if I'm wearing falsies. It definitely is a pain in the butt to remove but I use my cleansing oil. Don't need to rub that hard and it breaks down fairly easily. I've included a picture of my eyes; one with the mascara on and the other without." —s y l v i a *

Promising review: "This mascara is definitely worth trying if you haven't. It does take several coats to achieve my desired look because the wand doesn't put very much product on at a time. But that's not always a bad thing. It lengthened my lashes and added a good amount of volume. I curl my lashes before and it'll hold the curl all day." —Subiegirl04
Get it from Amazon for $7.09+ (available in four shades).
Promising review: "In my 65 years, I have tried just about every mascara out there. Let me begin by saying that I love this mascara. It separates my lashes, coats without clumping, and is thoroughly buildable with each added coat. I usually have to use a lash comb to separate lashes on subsequent applications, but not with this one. The formula dries quickly between coats and lasts all day without smudging or flaking. My only concern is the design of the brush; I wish it was tapered at the end to make it easier to get those tiny lashes at the inner/outer corners without the risk of a mishap. If you have the time to be careful with application, this is the perfect mascara. I personally will be ordering again." —SandraMD

Promising review: "After trying countless mascaras this is by far my favorite. I do agree that it has to be replaced more frequently than some others because it tends to thicken over time, but only about every three or four months with daily use. It works great — no smudging or flaking even after 12+ hours. Removes easily with soap and water or regular eye makeup remover, no problem." —Crissy
Get it from Amazon for $23.59. Cruelty-free and PETA-certified (but owned by L'Oreal).
Promising review: "Love love love this product! I've used Younique 3D Mascara, and while it is a great product, this costs less and is easier to apply. It takes a little practice, but you will see results that you'll never see with regular mascara. I have really short, thin lashes, and this does wonders. I will buy it again when I run out." —alisa c.

Promising review: "Finally, someone has made it easy to create big lashes without a million coats of mascara! I have relatively sparse lashes and oily skin, so I am constantly seeking a mascara that lengthens and volumizes my lashes but doesn't smudge or transfer. This product makes me want to throw away my other mascaras. So, happy to let you know that YES it's worth the hype." —skirtandheels
Get it from Sephora for $26. Cruelty-free and PETA-certified.
Promising review: "I love this mascara and have been using it for years. I try other brands and types and always go back to this natural-looking mascara. It darkens the lashes and thickens the thin tips so they're more noticeable, without any clumps and very little flaking. It doesn't clump up as quickly in the tube as other brands and types. It goes on as smoothly on day one as it does after six months later when it's due for replacement. If you prefer your makeup more natural looking and less obvious, this mascara is a very good, inexpensive choice." —J. Blair

Promising review: "The picture is kinda creepy but it's just to show how much this mascara does extend your lashes. It works SO great. It's my absolute favorite. It stays on all day and doesn't flake at all. I apply the white one a ton of times to lengthen them and separate them and then once I feel that they look long enough, I start applying the black. It's extremely easy to remove. You don't even need makeup remover, it just comes right off, and that's one of my favorite things about it. I've been using it for years and I'm never going to switch so I really hope that they never stop making it. I just love this stuff." —Samantha Troulis

Promising review: "I came home from work to discover my new mascara had been delivered and literally stopped what I was doing to put it on. The reviews for this stuff were really good so I was anxious to try it out. IT IS SO GOOD. I just switched out all my makeup to natural/organic/non-toxic and mascara was my last piece to swap. I prefer a very natural but full-looking lash for everyday wear. This mascara is exactly what I was looking for. You can see in my pic (I have zero other makeup on) how natural yet plumped the lashes on the left look. **Note: In the pic, I am wearing this mascara on the left eye only. Right eye is completely free of any product. I really hope this stands up to daily use because I am already a huge fan. No clumping whatsoever. The applicator is really good. Great for coating and separating the lashes." —Megan M.

Promising review: "I wanted a thickening mascara. I want my eyelashes to be so thick that people wonder if they're real, but not so thick that they look gloppy, stiff, or overdone. I wanted a mascara that could thicken and not be harmful. I did over a dozen product searches and read so many customer reviews...I was borderline obsessive. I decided that the customer reviews and price of Pacifica made it the best candidate. I love it. It doesn't smell (bonus), goes on well, and doesn't flake. I get excellent coverage, and my eyes are in no way irritated. It washes off with my face oil/soap. I get my thickness, too." —Janice Stevenson
Get it from Amazon for $13.99 (available in black and brown). Cruelty-free, PETA-certified, and 100% vegan.
Promising review: "I love it! I refuse to pay $30+ for the high-end brands since, over the years, I have found the moderate brands to be every bit as good if not better. Not having tried the L'Oreal mascara I decided, given the reviews, to give this one a try. Great choice. It is so easy to apply without getting globs of it on my lashes. I had no problem with it smearing on the bottom under the lashes or, as long as I didn't look straight up, it dotting the upper lid either. Really made my lashes look long and thick, too. I use an electric lash curler in the wand style to curl my very long but straight lashes. Wow, did this hold the curl. Put me down on the 'fan' list." —Connie of GA

Promising review: "This is still my favorite drugstore mascara. I've repurchased it four times!!! Since it's waterproof it holds my curl despite my lashes being very stubborn. It lengthens, separates, and thickens. It doesn't leave my lashes looking like electrocuted spider legs. It looks pretty natural in a sense that it doesn't goop on too much product, but just enough to get your lashes looking pretty damn nice." —Kim-E

Promising review: "I'd been waffling about buying this or Stila's mascara after getting both in subscription boxes. I've been wearing Mad Lash every day lately though, so I decided to go with this. It doesn't hurt that it's a few bucks cheaper than Stila! I don't wear a lot of makeup and this is a really quick way to enhance my eyes without having to spend several minutes on them." —Rachel M.

Promising review: "I have been using this product for approximately five years, and it never disappoints. It is incredibly long lasting, you can cry, swim — as long as you do not rub your eyes it will stay on until you remove it with warm water! I have tried all of the colors except brown and I absolutely love the blue! Definitely would recommend for anyone with short lashes. Simply apply one coat, let it dry, then go back and apply more to the very tips of your lashes for greater length. I will never go back to the waxy, clumpy mascaras I've used in the past." —mark

Promising review: "Losing my lashes three years ago due to chemo, I never thought I'd be able to bulk up my pathetic lash regrowth. I've got a makeup bag full of mascaras I need to combine to make me look like I have lashes. This product is a miracle for me!" —Traci D. Watkins

Promising review: "For the price, I am very pleased. The curved brush makes application easy. You can apply multiple coats to add more drama to your look. I've experienced no clumping with this and usually do a couple coats, which really makes my eyelashes look long and glorious! It stays on all day, though I may retouch if I have an event later in the day just as a precautionary measure. Given the price, I am very pleased with the quality of this mascara! I would definitely recommend." —CH
