This Mashup Of "Lord Of The Rings" And "Parks And Rec" Works Weirdly Well
Imagine if Pawnee were located in Middle Earth.
ParksAndRings is a Tumblr page that matches quotes from Parks And Recreation with scenes and screencaps from the Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit movies.
Brooke Ihlefeld, one of the page's creators, tells BuzzFeed that she originally started making the mashups 18 months ago, but stepped it up once the recent Hobbit movies came out.
She says: "It was kind of a trend/meme on Tumblr for a while to make posts with Andy Dwyer's "You can address me as Eagle One..." quote (from the "Bus Tour" episode of Parks) over screencaps from other popular shows and movies.
"Michael, who runs the blog with me, and I hadn't seen one yet for Lord of the Rings, so we decided to make one since we could think of a lot of Parks quotes that would fit in LotR situations (oddly enough). It does work surprisingly well! We've found that Thorin works especially well for Ron Swanson quotes and Legolas and Aragorn are great for Leslie and Ann."
To that end, sometimes the quotes are tweaked to substitute LotR character names for Parks ones.
Brooke says: "It doesn't take long to create a screencap once the inspiration hits.
"I watch old episodes of Parks And Recreation all the time, and now I'm used to trying to listen for quotes that I think will fit with pictures from LotR or The Hobbit. Michael and I have both seen all the Tolkien movies more times than we can probably count, and I know I've watched every episode of Parks about six times, so it's pretty easy to match quotes with scenes at this point."
"I actually have a list of quite a few quotes/situations saved to a document, some of which our followers have have suggested, so the blog will stay active for a long time. We're just both in our last semester of college, so schoolwork is kind of a hassle, but as soon as summer comes, we'll be posting a lot more often."
"We get so many nice messages from other Tumblr users every day saying ParksAndRings is one of their favorite blogs or that they were having a bad day until they came across it, and that's very great to hear."
