2004 Was The Best Year For Movies And We Have The Receipts

    Mean Girls? Anchorman?? Garden State?!!

When you think of 2004, it might not stand out to you as a very memorable year.

BUT we're here to tell you that 2004 DID have some significance. It was hands down the best year in cinema.

    1. 2004 brought us arguably the most iconic movie to ever bless this earth, Mean Girls.

    2. And no, it didn't stop there. We were also gifted the unbeatable coming of age story that was 13 Going on 30. We laughed. We cried.

    3. We absolutely SOBBED when The Notebook came out (no, we still can't watch the ending without losing our shit).

    4. We started laughing again (laughing so hard we cried) when Anchorman came to theaters and people literally didn't stop quoting it for years to come.

    5. Then Dodgeball came along and gave us some rules to live by.

    6. And to be honest, we weren't even ready for the subversive masterpiece that was White Chicks.

    7. When Napoleon Dynamite first dropped we were like WTF is this. And now we can't imagine a world without it.

    8. Our childhood was finally made when we found out they were making a Spongebob SquarePants Movie (and it lived up to all expectations).

    9. And for anyone who loved both horror and comedy, the perfect hybrid was created with Shaun of the Dead.

    10. No one could stop talking about the scene when the main character in Saw had to cut off his own foot.

    11. There was almost as much chatter about it as the people who had to walk out of Passion of the Christ.

    12. And let's not forget about all the people who are probably still on the lookout to make sure the little boy from The Grudge isn't lurking around.

    13. 2004 was also the year of biopics, like The Aviator, about the billionaire and aviation tycoon Howard Hughes (played by Leonardo DiCaprio).

    14. Or Ray, about the blind musician, Ray Charles (played by Jamie Foxx).

    15. And Finding Neverland, about the man who gave us Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie (played by Johnny Depp).

    16. 2004 was huge for indie movies. Which movie soundtrack would white people be listening to on repeat if it weren't for Garden State?

    17. And TBH we're still trying to figure out what the hell happened in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

    18. In the realm of movies loved by literally everyone, we were given the national treasure that is National Treasure.

    19. The movie that won best picture was none other than Million Dollar Baby, with a performance by Hilary Swank and Clint Eastwood that left everyone speechless.

    20. And finally, the real reason we're here. Le pièce de résistance, Catwoman.
