If all governments got out of the marriage business (i.e., no special considerations for married couples, no involvement in divorce, no involvement in hospital visitation rights, no special tax incentives, etc. just because someone is “married”), then there’d be no issue at all.
You want any special considerations? You register a domestic partnership. Do whatever you want in church, the state is not involved. Domestic partnership? Any two consenting adults. (So all you animal fetish worriers, sit back down.)
All this religious freedom stuff is pretty slippery…..although I like that it allows me to discriminate (in the name of religious freedom) against:
1. Divorced and remarried people (they are clearly adulterers according to the bible.)
2. Catholics….my religion hates Catholics
3. Women shopping without being accompanied by their husband or male member of their family
4. Corollary - I can refuse women a driving license, just because
5. I can discard any loan I have taken out when it reaches 7 years of age
And along with the religious, we get the “stand your ground” laws that basically allow you to shoot someone if you feel threatened (Note, FEEL threatened, not necessarily ARE threatened.) I especially like this one because I’m free to shoot any politician that I feel is threatening my way of life with any law they support/sponsor.
What do you expect from Miss? If they want jobs and be mainstream, they need to start by raising the average education level above the 3rd grade, especially among their politicians.
Response to GOP Science Committee Chair Begins Hearing By Saying Scientific Climate Change Consensus Has Been “Debunked”:
Poles tilting more and more? There is a natural precession, like any gyroscope which will result in the tilt gaining and losing over the precession period, that for the Earth is about 26,000 yrs.
If talking about obliquity, it’s actually decreasing currently. Both are well understood processes.
You make it sound as if we’re about to become 90 degrees tilted.
Response to The Console War That Never Happened:
If you want a set-top box today, it has to have the ability, at a reasonable cost, to supplant the poor cable and satellite boxes in use. I don’t want yet another box sitting by my TV….once you’ve got the network connections and TV hardware drivers in place, the rest is all software (and maybe a plug-in for basic cable/satellite signalling)….add some memory and good to go…and in a small box to boot.
Having rules that differ between men and women is likely to get you a gender discrimination lawsuit. No earrings at all for the guys? That’s actually a pretty common item for guys (especially the younger crowd) to wear.
Clean and neat makes sense, but what is a “natural nail polish color” when nail polish is 100% unnatural to begin with?
