In the same way that these clothes would not be acceptable in a professional setting, they are simply not appropriate for school. These girls need to understand that this is nothing new- and just because something is in style doesn’t mean they have a fundamental right to wear it. When I was in middle school, ripped jeans were in style, in fact that’s basically all that stores sold. However, we were not allowed to wear them because they “loked sloppy”. The dress code can be about seeking to provide an environment with less “distractions,” but it’s also about teaching kids how to present themselves well.
